We ran our fridge intermittently off of our Ioniq 5 battery during a 4-day outage in Colorado, trading an inverter back and forth w a generous neighbor. Doesn’t use much capacity and you can drive to somewhere w power to recharge if needed. We bought our own inverter for next time!

We were living in Vienna when Russia invaded Ukraine, and you, my US friends and neighbors, sent thousands of dollars to fund direct aid for displaced people. That's who we can and should be in the world.

I tagged along on a 4th grade conservation and agriculture field trip today, and it's just plain stupid how much we're going to lose by dismantling public science.

There’s been a lot of yelling about unplowed streets in Boulder of late, but this is why sidewalks should be the bigger story.

Innovative Study by UPenn and NYPL Finds That Public Libraries Positively Impact Community Health and Well-Being "Our research found that patrons experience refuge, joy, connection, purpose, and expansion through their library use"

This is really interesting. Groundbreaking study on the value of libraries and “third places.”

“A whopping 82% of people who used the library’s physical space and 79% of people who physically attended programs reported more optimism regarding the future, compared to only 58% of digital-only users.”

...AND I'm salty that years of organizing are essentially being erased in this update. Boulder's co-op ordinance and occupancy fights have burned through a shameful number of everyday activists. And this confirms just how much of their lives we wasted.

It's deeply satisfying to see those 8 pages of regulations red-lined out of existence...

Boulder 'legalized' housing cooperatives in 2017, but the rules were so restrictive that only one new co-op was ever formed under them. Groups of unrelated people already sharing housing had to compile book-length documentation and pay heavy fees for the privilege of recognition.

My Planning Board colleagues nudged Boulder one step closer to eliminating family-based residential occupancy limits tonight, including recommending striking all references to cooperative housing from our municipal code. Co-ops have their own chapter there!
