Ok I absolutely recommend making yourself a bird bag. Excellent weekend project. Extremely funny if you add legs. The pattern is pretty well done, I wish some steps included more detailed diagrams or photos.

When I read "we desperately need a radically pro-technology leftist movement" I understand that to mean like "A Google for the Left" which doesn't make sense.

However, I think it reflects the free and open source software movement which has a mix of libertarian and socialist vibes.

Pro-social technology is a very, very fine needle to thread. I don't know if it's worth advocating for technology, rather than specific outcomes.

What Does Palantir Actually Do? Palantir is often called a data broker, a data miner, or a giant database of personal information. In reality, it’s none of these—but even former employees struggle to explain it.

Palantir doing supervillain monologuing sure does, deliberately or not, distract from its actual business being almost extravagantly boring:

Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.

We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Hartzog said lawmakers need to create more specific rules tailored to the unique threat posed by the combination of facial recognition and nearly undetectable surveillance technology before it becomes ubiquitous. Those laws need to target not only people using the technology, but also the companies behind it, he said.

“A lot of these conversations tend to focus on, ‘is it OK to use these glasses or this tool to surveil other people?’” he said. “What often gets lost in this conversation is, ‘is it OK for companies to design these really socially hostile tools in ways that will foreseeably lead to massive violations of privacy?’”

When I mean structurally, I mean keeping the car in one piece, keeping the battery safe during collisions, and the usual water cooling plumbing that accompanies batteries. It's not just electrical contacts that need to be connected.

This works okay for dense areas on fleet vehicles, but normal people don't drive like uber drivers. Their cars sit idle 90% of the day, where they can charge casually.

Battery swapping was a fun idea ten years ago, but it doesn't scale because batteries are structurally part of the car, and if you account for the time to find a swap station, slower.

We're not far from 15 minute 20-80% DC fast charging. And home charging works fine.

Fixed! Some guy on youtube correctly identified a slipped belt, but did a bad repair.

On a bad jam, the timing belt can skip. Needle (at leftmost position) should cross the bobbin hook just as it starts to move back up.

Open bottom, remove the belt, align the hook and needle, put belt back on.

I can't find my angled screwdriver, will get there soon, I'm just worried about it becoming a tool I can't depend on, which crushes my desire to make things 🫠

The very light ripstop nylon is slippery, and I accidentally ran some through improperly, which causes the feed to fail
