this thread caused me to spend too much time reading newspaper articles about people getting "nausea, rapid heart beat, stomach cramps" after eating Tuna Twist

i had to make a linkedin because apparently having a decade plus old website isnt legitimate enough for google, anyway i dont plan to regularly haunt linkedin but if you do, add me there to make me look more real.

excerpt of Lady baltimore by Owen Wister in which the main character raves about a delicous slice of cake

excerpt of Lady baltimore by Owen Wister in which the main character raves about a delicous slice of cake

the passage in the novel where Wister introduces the cake is pretty funny (to me - i dont read a lot of that era literature)

I dont like it that much! Mainly because of the icing. But I do have many recipes for it and have considered making a version I'd enjoy more.. maybe cream cheese icing..

as much as I hate losing more money to Old Line Plate, I sprung for a $5/month Railway project hosting to mirror my database.
There's something thrilling about "logging in" to it. Currently it wont work on my ipad which defeats my purpose (viewing my database in bed lol) but i'll get there

i assume he's talking about office ladies who make like 35k. I have spent decades watching wave after wave of stupid men who have no idea what we actually do trying to make our jobs obsolete and only changing the particulars of the crazy workarounds that make us irreplaceable in the first place

why should we let academia hoard all the big words!

As a dropout/academic failure who reads a lot of academic papers in my research, I have a distaste for actual "scholarly" writing. I just think of your writing as that of an intelligent person who reads? or maybe its just that you're a rare writer who's good enough to pull of scholarly writing 🤷‍♀️

Im envious of people who have someone to bounce all their writing off of but its a rare thing! One can only read so much. I can see why people are tempted by the fake humanity of bots, but I don't want AI anywhere near my writing on one end or the other. I think thats why I deleted grammarly

i havent used grammarly in a good long while because it already gave me the creeps but I have no editor and I would like a tool that would point out to me when I overuse certain words, I miss that especially.

I heard some gorillaz (which i have always been indifferent to despite being a casual blur fan) recently and it occurred to me how it was basically the future of music and at the time it seemed like a forgettable novelty to me

I like to "joke" that the end of google reader brought about the general collapse of society.
for a good while now my site has just been there to attract search engine traffic but now its just an AI trainer and glorified c.v. for speaking engagements

maintaining a website in 2026 feels like maintaining a lawn. Its a total waste of space that nobody cares about or notices unless its really bad, so you have to put in effort anyway.
I need the website equivalent of woody shrubbery.

yeah if i didn't before, I at least did when I saw hit & stay at the Charles, some time not long after it came out in 2013

bluehost and sitelock are owned by the same guy, apparently.

I'm mad I didn't know more during the call so I could give the sleazy "cybersecurity" employee a piece of my mind but at least I didn't give them more money. I hate these people.
scamming your own customers! I hate it here.

I searched around and it turns out they've been pulling this scam since as far back as 2017, even taking people's sites down and more or less holding them ransom to buy sitelock- all over links to EXTERNAL infected sites.

I conducted a bunch of scans and ultimately found that I had a LINK to an external site that was compromised this made sense since I already have extra security, firewall, etc.

All the while I had been doing my own scans and research and kept asking him where I could find a diagnostic or something.
i said i want to fix the malware first and would call back about sitelock. he promised to generate a file (he never did - I dont think he even had access).

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

offered me 10% discount on sitelock. then a cheaper sitelock plan (still hundreds of dollars that I dont have. I realized this was a sales pitch and not a tech support call and got annoyed.

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

I told him I can't afford that. I even said well if that's really necessary and there's nothing I can do, I guess I'll have to stop self-hosting and take my site down. He tried to call my bluff and basically implied he could take my site down right away - again without giving me any information

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

the guy kept trying to sell me their sitelock service to do a scan and protect my site in the future. I kept trying to ask him what I can do about the actual malware first and he changed the subject to sitelock again and again

I had just done some plugin updates and thought that might be the problem.
when I got a call back from bluehost (and I googled the number to make sure it was theirs), I got a complete runaround

1 month ago 1 0 1 0

I got a phone call that there was malware on my site. obviously i was unsettled. I dont even use google analytics because I dont want to help google track my readers, let alone infect them with malware

1 month ago 2 0 1 0

I host my site with bluehost, and unfortunately its paid up through 2028.
i've had my issues with them before but the other day they crossed the line and if I could afford to I'd cut my losses and transfer immediately.

all the people being like "they have no right to criticize" are playing into the entire problem with all of this.
nobody powerful has the right to criticize anyone else powerful because theyre all corrupt. ok great.
