Markets operate more efficiently with better information. Data help educators prepare students for jobs, help policymakers effectively invest taxpayer dollars, and promote US national competitiveness by supporting human capital development. bit.ly/3QZtJZO

"Economics is actually beautiful because it's the study of human cooperation... It's that cooperation that grows the pie bigger that is the most exciting part of economics, and it's also the part that's completely absent from the Trump agenda."
The farce that this is to protect Jews is beyond offensive and insulting. Cancelling grants, threatening deportation of students based on their speech does not make me feel either safe or supported as a Jew. No admin in my life has made me feel *less* safe. Disgusting. www.ed.gov/about/news/p...
The older I get, the more convinced I become that when ordering coffee out there should be a separate line for those of us who only want drip.
Last month we went to Costco for Super Bowl snacks. Bought a giant bag of tortilla chips. It literally goes up to my knee (that's more a comment on the size of the bag and not on my height).
Now I feel guilty when I have any other snack other than chips. I just keep saying, one more on repeat.
The ball was also frozen? Let's just blame that entire game on the weather, oh and being terrible this year.
It's so cold the basket froze over.
The amount of time I spend thinking about creating an anonymous BlueSky account so that I can release my sarcasm to the world is unreasonable.
Thank you to all those who have already created these outlets, they are satiating to my soul.
Great piece on the important studies killed off at IES
Incredibly shortsighted behavior

Knowing what works, for whom, and under what conditions is one of the most powerful tools I can imagine in public policy. Adding cost effectiveness analysis can improve efficiency while understanding context supports generalizability.
The annual benefits of equalizing educational attainment:
- $58.7B by lowered public health spending
- $33.7B from decreased need for federal assistance programs
- $13.8B as a result of reduced public costs related to incarceration

"Federal research provides real benefit to every state and district ... States and districts need this information on what works ... Without it, students are less prepared and the well-being of all Americans suffers." dataqualitycampaign.org/news/the-adm...
Odle said the loss of federal dollars is “an assault on the U.S.’s education data infrastructure.” He added that “at some point in their career, every education researcher in the United States has leveraged a product produced by the U.S. Department of Education or IES.”

Yeah, just not a fan of an ELITE team.
I feel like this is validation and a burn at the same time. Well played.
Look at it this way...you could be watching NC State play.
Hearing from a govt contractor that Dept of Education is terminating What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) contracts.
WWC is a website that rigorously evaluates education policies, programs, and products to determine what's effective and not. It's an invaluable tool for school, district, state leaders
I have also heard of IES contract cancellations, affecting friends and colleagues.
Come be an intern with my amazing team at @curriculumassoc.bsky.social!

This remains the biggest part of the story to me - the ongoing trend of the bottom falling out of the performance distribution.
A candid take on the sobering NAEP results.
Ten years old and still as relevant as ever!
@the74.bsky.social bringing the heat today.
Not sure I'd say we're getting "dumber" but, while only one measure of intelligence, test scores are declining.
I'd argue that the reasons for these declines are a range of issues that have been built on the teetering trust in education systems.

Great research on efficacy of small, administrative measures to reduce student loan delinquency
Small effects, yes, but also at a tiny, tiny, cost
So, welfare enhancing
Hope there are staff left in Department of Education to act on this

Really interesting and fun tool!
This could be really useful in communicating some meaning for research to a more general audience outside of academics. I really like the effort to make research more practical in positioning it's meaning!
Go @carajackson.bsky.social colleagues!
