I definitely recommend this strategy, it’s saved me seeing tons of repeated jokes, uncontroversial opinions, and performative engagement farming. You can probably guess what I was blocking around Christmas.

I’ll now be blocking posts with this phrase in them, so! Maybe I won’t see my own!

Your periodic reminder that your “periodic reminder” posts sound smug and self-righteous.

If that’s what you are going for, good job! You nailed it!

What I wouldn’t give for a Pinky & the Brain X Resident Evil crossover.

I was not initially super excited about spanberger but she didn’t give in on anti-trans attacks and she seems to genuinely despise republicans so I’ve come around

Ellen smiles wearing a Stitch oodie, snuggling under an orange blanket, and holding a Switch 2.

Ellen was zonked out on painkillers for a week, so all she could do was curl up and play Pokémon Pokopia.

Turns out, it's the *perfect* game for when you're zonked out on painkillers for a week.

Occasionally I see folks sharing that “everything after the ?” in a url is tracking / surveillance data and can be safely deleted.

This is complete bullshit and you should block anyone who says this because they are spreading bullshit.

Given these facts, I struggle to understand what it would mean to “de-escalate the rhetoric” around AI. The CEOs are more convinced than ever that powerful intelligence will arrive within the next few years. The public increasingly believes them — and is appalled by the implications. It seems strange to suggest that, amidst accelerating breakthroughs in AI model performance, everyone needs to calm down.

If we really might be facing “the greatest threat to the continued existence of humanity,” as Altman once wrote, shouldn’t we expect people at some point to (non-violently) freak out?

Those are: “fuck apostrophes” and “fuck cursive” — neither of which work half as well on Mastodon or Bluesky as they did on Facebook.

“It’s a shame they made [historically political thing] political” is pro-level engagement farming, much better than my go-to strategies.

One of our cars was starting to show its age and we put about 40% of its book value into repairs over the last six months, so it seemed time. Used electrics are apparently a great deal right now if you can find one.

Little Girls from Sweden Dream The answers to last week's Friday 10 are now posted, both at their original home and at its own YouTube playlist for those who prefer to actually hear the songs! And it was a rare theme week: The entire list was either music about gender identity or by nonbinary/genderqueer/transgender artists. This includes one of my...

No idea why my thumbnails aren't coming through for my links. Anyhoo.
@thudfactor.com and @unrealfred.bsky.social are currently tied at two lyrics each! There are six lyrics left to identify -- anyone want to take a crack at them?

There is going to be a big wave of "omg what if you didn't treat this as an answer machine" "what if we rediscover active learning" commentary from CS in about six months, especially the voices currently describing everything as "brain rot and cognitive decline," and I'm already a bit tired

We were kind of anticipating a drawn-out conflict in Iran which still seems a solid bet tbh.

Bought an electric car last week, so the last few days have been a learning adventure. The charging station I just used turns out to have been pretty expensive! We're absolutely going to rely on home charging as much as possible.

Last week's Friday 10 was a sneaky, unannounced theme week. @frodiscaper.bsky.social took first place with two lyrics identified (and even sang more of one of the songs in the comments!) while @unrealfred.bsky.social came in second with one lyric.
How many can you get from this week's 10?

The full-stack engineer has become the default hire. One person, one salary, covering the database, the API, the back-end logic, and the front-end interface. Efficient on paper. Straightforward to justify in a headcount meeting. And quietly catastrophic for the quality of what gets built.
