Never thought I'd ever have to learn about vector maths as an animator but here I am
Dot product? Now you're just making things up. Sure, let's just make half of 90 degrees equal 60 degrees, why not
Whoops I mean "permanent" not "full-time"
This. I fear this is where AAA gamedev is headed too - no more full-time/staff positions, studios hiring most of their staff on short-term contracts for the duration of a project then cutting them all loose and starting over for each project, like the VFX industry. No more institutional knowledge.
It's so nice seeing all of this art and animation in my feed again, I've missed it so much

🏄 Bro goes with the ledge flow.
More random sharing of minor stuff, while cooking up the core stuff, this time the ledge grab system I made back for the party pals prototype, coming to good use here :)

A knight in red armor on a gray background. He's rendered in a painterly style in 3D with visible brush strokes and stylized shading.
Spider-Punk from Marvel's Spider-Man (2018)
A drawing of a large robot suit that resembles a car from the 40s. The driver is leaning out the hatch on the top, and a mechanic stands nearby holding a big wrench.
A fishy green and yellow character with big flaps for ears, large round eyes, and a necklacke made of beads and teeth. He stands chest-deep in the ocean
Howdy, #PortfolioDay!

Oh no. I am getting really scared for my move. I don't have a lot of savings and I have no full time work lined up. I can't afford to be doing this right now.
If anyone knows of any remote work or work in California, please reach out. Thank you.

Hey folks, my contract with
@superseedstudios.bsky.social is ending soon so I'm on the hunt for my next adventure. If you're in need of an animator give me a shout, especially if you're remote friendly or local to Austin, TX! Cheers! #PortfolioDay
Happy #PortfolioDay ! 🥳
I am a gameplay animator with 8 years of experience that loves stylized humanoid and creature #animation. 😍
Just finished production on Town of Zoz (Available now on Steam!) and I'm looking for my next adventure! 💛
This infuriating attitude shows up on the bookshelves in learning environments, too. We expect girls to empathize with boys, but we kneecap every opportunity to let boys empathize with girls. And look where we are.
Oh man I forgot about bloom
Rooms and doorways that are MASSIVE and very much not to scale to account for navmesh, 3rd-person camera, etc. It always feels very "videogamey" (derogatory)
So anyway I sat down and wrote this post instead of making food
It's 1:20pm, I haven't eaten or stepped away from my desk since starting work this morning, I'm hungry, I'm dehydrated, I have a headache, I've finally moved myself into the kitchen to make lunch, and my brain goes:
"This might be a good time to write a manifesto on why I don't like genAI"
💀
I have had to learn to be very careful with the words I use when describing things to engineers, lest I unintentionally use an Official Word For A Thing
Game workers do not receive any residuals/royalties on shipped titles and shipping bonuses are increasingly rare. There's also no guarantee that your name will even be in the credits if you leave before ship, and studios will use this to keep you compliant.
All of this can and should change.
I've always been jealous of people who can work from a laptop and can just set up in a café, I wish I could do this but as an animator I have grown very dependent on having more than one screen and I would struggle to do actual work anywhere other than at my desk 😭
Yeah that's a good point, sometimes I do appreciate quality of life improvements to mechanics, but I usually prefer everything else remains untouched
I wish I knew...so many good games I've left unfinished because of this
Screenshot from the Disney live-action remake of Alladin
I'm sure there are exceptions to this rule, but sometimes game remakes just feel like this:
I'm starting to turn off the idea of remakes/remasters - I'd rather games are preserved in their original form but kept accessible to play for new generations
If you want to update a beloved game I think a full reboot or sequel is a better option than recreating a work of art that already exists
I should also mention that said contract gig is ending next week! I can make things move good, and I'm also great implementing said good-moving things (especially in UE5!). So if you need a senior gameplay animator on your project, lemme know! :D
Finally a proper Bluey game, made in Brisbane as it should be!
Looks great, congrats on the announcement Dylan!
