There is a galaxy of difference between the Rebellion and the Empire’s faithful. We lead with hope, unity, and courage. We watch each other’s flanks. Even when stunned, struck, or fired upon, we hold the line. Our strength is in our resolve. Our resistance is our weapon.

FRODO: I can’t do this, Sam.

SAM: I know. It’s all wrong. By rights we shouldn’t even be here. But we are. It’s like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger they were. And sometimes you didn’t want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened?

But in the end, it’s only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something. Even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back only they didn’t. Because they were holding on to something.

FRODO: What are we holding on to, Sam?

SAM: That there’s some good in this world, Mr. Frodo. And it’s worth fighting for.

Goodnight friends ♥️ Our hearts are with all of us at HHS who receive bad news tomorrow. And all those at health departments across the country who received bad news this week. Call us cheesy, but Lord of the Rings is on our minds.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

I think about this 2 minute speech a lot. Ella Baker with no time for applause and agreement, only time to remind everyone about what organizing and solidarity require

Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

i made it up

here on this bridge between

starshine and clay,

my one hand holding tight

my other hand; come celebrate

with me that everyday

something has tried to kill me

❗ALERT❗ There are 3 congressional seats up for election (FL-1, FL-6, NY-21), 2 with voting starting in 3 weeks (links below). Media has been strangely silent on this 🤔 Congress is 218 R, 215 D. If we pick up 3 seats, we gain control of the House. A major step towards stopping Trump’s agenda

With everything going on in the world, I know it’s hard, but don’t forget to live. Find joy, smile, and hold on to what makes you happy. Because the weaker you feel, the easier it is for them to win.

None of us can be sure what will “work.” You try multiple things and find your way in. Read some histories of the Civil Rights Movement by those who participated. They were never “sure” of what would work. Some campaigns fizzled out. But persistence, creativity, determination, and focus were key.
