What a good lineup of contributing authors in there, too. Thanks for the heads-up.

feels like an especially irresponsible moment to ignore BDS when Game Pass is the easiest, level one way to participate in the boycott and BDS just called for renewed pressure after Israel passed a law on executing Palestinian and Arab in prisons that use Microsoft cloud services
His “I never think about how living in empires built on suffering affects my daily life” t-shirt might raise questions about if he ever thinks about that topic.
Superb taste for this tune. One of his (underrated) best!
Today marks 10 years without Prince

And good luck working towards a fall marathon. I’m eyeing a half, myself.
Yeah, I think it’s shorthand at best. “Metatextual elements being used in the game” is more precise, although it borrows from another medium.
I mostly buy Jake’s point that calling something “videogame-y” is more identification than analysis. That’s a useful distinction.
I saw this conversation pop up elsewhere. To me, in a positive sense, I think it might describe when a game purposefully reminds players that they’re playing a game. Like when Paranormasight makes you dig into the menus so that an in-game character can avoid being cursed.
Hbd!
Moose Life is one of my favorite games. And it's one of the first reviews I wrote for Gamers with Glasses, in 2021. For a minute, I had a top 10 score on normal mode. It's a real experience in VR.
Since the beta, I was wondering if Marathon would hold up to a long session. I just had to find a day when I had time to play for more than a couple hours. Today was that day, playing with friends was great, and I closed out on a high note. Game’s good even when it serves me 10 Ls in a row.
Lovely. Ty!

I've been hitting Rival Consoles, some older Plaid (Scintilla works), Ellen Aileen & Apparat...

I am not allowed to answer the question of "where do you get your games journalism and criticism from" because I can cheat and give you a big fucking list
Stealthily the stars slid forward into nothingness.
Woah, Voice is good and Hands is great! Voice has a mixture of dream logic and outright jokes, while Hands does all this stuff with space, nostalgia, and analysis. Are the other stories just that much better, or are people just wrong?
I played Hands of a Killer last night (on switch) and it ruled. The ideas about space in Hands and the way violence connects with nostalgia, media, academia, so good.
Listening to Water From Your Eyes this morning. This track, “Born 2,” caught my attention. Some of it reminds me of some of STRFKR’s synths, other bits verge into Sleigh Bell’s double bass drum thing, kinda cool. #optionallistening
Blogged about it, because I had to:
Thanks, friend. I managed to take classes at 4 out of 5 of them (I still wish I had made a class at Mt. Holyoke work), and getting to experience places across the pioneer valley was a big part of it.
Bad sign for higher ed and American culture in general. That might seem like a lot to say about a small school, but there aren’t many left like it.
Here’s a school that was founded on principles of self-directed and -designed learning, where student agency was recognized and encouraged. And all of the work that went in stopped convincing enough new students and their parents that it was worth the risk and the cost.
I went to Hampshire college. Without exaggeration, its community and place changed the course of my life. The decision to close the college isn’t unexpected, but it is deeply depressing.
Been at work for 25 minutes. Ready to go home and play Top Gear 3000 instead.
What do you want from critical writing about games? What's missing from what's currently out there?
