All my work deadlines have been dealt with, and for the first time in a while I have nothing coming up. I have money just enough to last a couple of months. It's so frustrating that even after crunching for months on end, as soon as I have time off the financial fear paralysis is back immediately

The work of transformation from idea to material is why a client goes to an artist. And why they go to AI now, because it's an artist that won't have their own ideas or cause any friction, or say 'no' when they ask for endless revisions, and to the undiscerning eye is just good enough. (5/5)

It's turning you into a client, and not a very good client at that. A client can have taste, sure, they can be a great connoisseur or an art, or they can know nothing besides their instinctive "like" reaction, but an artist commissioning a work (even in great detail) isn't an artist. (4/5)

The very basic skill of art-making (be it music or visual or anything at all) is the skill to translate an idea into something external to you, the moment of transformation where things turn from thought to matter through your action, and AI is stealing it from you. (3/5)

it's understanding why you like it to minute details, how it makes you feel and how it does it, it's an analytical process that goes beyond the instinct. Taste as an artist is creating an internal cohesive library of inspirations, a repertoire that becomes muscle memory that you can draw on. (2/5)

I hate the way AI grifters use the language of "taste" to sell their product. Cultivating a taste is essential to making art, and it's something that you have to do very actively in order to make it useful. Taste isn't just liking something, (1/5)
