On a knife's edge as well. Appreently, it will also come down to a handful of seats 😏
The distribution shows that while there was a high primary vote for minor parties and INDs, these people weren't hating the majors, just liking someone else more. Of voters for candidates outside the top 3, 72.2% put one of the majors ahead of Hopper.
Raises all sorts of issues, such as, what defines the split, geography, assets, share of market etc. We all want cheaper insurance but as you say, climate change is currently the strongest variable driving costs.
Since 1990:
Cases where a non-major-party federal Reps candidate has led on primaries but lost to a major party candidate: 1
Cases of the opposite: 19.
(includes by-elections)
When parliamentarians left Canberra on Thursday after the fortnight sitting, federal politics had the air of an uneasy waiting game.
The WA election race is underway today with the issue of writs. So far 253 candidates lower house candidates have been named. Find all the names plus election background and profiles of every seat at my WA Election guide. www.abc.net.au/news/electio... #wavotes
May you continue to get good scans Jon.
Your cartoons have made me think, laugh & sigh over the years - your light on the Hill cartoon is still relevant today as when you drew it.
My #WAVotes2025 election guide has just been launched. The usual features, a preview, full profiles of every seat, indexes by candidate, electorate name and margin. Legislative Council to be added in a day or two. www.abc.net.au/news/electio...
Wonder World was before my time, but its legacy no doubt had an impact. Will always remember Simon’s musical number (30s onwards). Vale Simon. #WonderWorld #SimonTownsend @tonymartin.bsky.social

My new column: the year the geopolitical plates shifted & where to in 2025. From Ukraine, Gaza, Syria, Russia, China to what Trump means. Mideast deteriorating. Gaza now almost unliveable, Turkey new kingmaker after Russia, Iran lose Syria. We’ll see fallout for years

The Sun shines against a blue and cloudy sky, above a giant antenna dish - Deep Space Station 43, in Canberra, Australia. A part of NASA’s deep Space Network.
The #ParkerSolarProbe is just hours away from its close encounter with the Sun.📡〰️〰️〰️🛰️🔜☀️
Just 6.1 million kilometres from the Sun’s surface, travelling at 692,000 kilometres per hour, it’s going to be an amazing ride as it races around our star. See you on the other side!

That takes me back. Add a pine tree smell and that was my Christmas growing up.
Kind of set him up to fail. First test against India, geez seriously look at how other senior players went.
The AEC has published its estimates of seat margins on post-redistribution electoral boundaries. Antony Green and Ben Raue weigh in on how and why they differ from ours. antonygreen.com.au/fed25-a-plet... www.tallyroom.com.au/58564
The AEC published their margins for the next federal election earlier today, which will be the basis for calculating swings. But in a number of non-classic seats, despite their best efforts, I don't think their margins accurately reflect the seat. I explained more here:

It's this time of year again ... 2024 a very different year in polls to 2023.

A very common misconception I see is that it is necessary to vote below the line in the Senate to control where your preferences go. This was true for Senate elections from 1984 to 2014 but is no longer true. (It is still true in the Vic state upper house for now.)
I'm excited to announce that my complete guide to the 2025 Australian federal election is now live, all 150 House races and 8 Senate contests can be found here: www.tallyroom.com.au/aus2025
