What is happening with Zohran is however very familiar to American bureaucrats: when the political principal wants something, then they move heaven and earth to do it. But they don’t move on their own initiative, and generally block, slow, or water down anything that does not come from the top.

what i am learning from this is that there are likely many clients who are only looking for tone, and who do not mind scrubbing off nuance if the tone achieves the vibes that make them feel cool or professional. from my pov though it is like talking with someone who is using their dog to talk back
so i went back and suggested edits to this scope that added our nuance back in and this morning i thionk the person again used AI to rewrite the edits in a way that glosses right over meaning to achieve tone and i'm losing it
What would actually put Portland on the map is negotiating public ownership shares in exchange for any public funds used. why would we subsidize billionaires when the city has budget issues? @mayorkwilson.bsky.social
A group of lawmakers gathered at a podium in front of the U.S. Capitol with signs that read Working Families Guarantee, Tax the Rich, Childcare, Good Jobs
HAPPENING NOW: Representatives Pramila Jayapal, @delia.bsky.social and other lawmakers gather at the Capitol in support of policies included in a new economic agenda: The Working Families Guarantee.

Just like all revolutions, we will understand this change as simply an assertion of basic truths that we hold self-evident: e.g. women are actually people, Black people deserve to live, that we all need a viable ecosystem to survive, that no one should die from being too poor to afford treatment.
I have never once dreaded an e-bike ride the way I dread traffic and car commuting, every ride is an adventure and a pleasure
The city streetcars went as far as Vancouver in the north, Sellwood to the south, out past 82nd to the east and up into the West Hills in SW and NW. Timetables for the streetcars aren't easy to find they preferred to express service in terms of frequency – "6-minute cars", "8-minute cars" etc.
I had to stop by my office below the Fremont bridge so I decided to take broadway bridge to Hawthorne bridge on the way to the lucky lab pub, just to go over the river in the sun. On the way back I got to ride and chat with a friend on the 7th Ave greenway all the way to skidmore
Yep, it is
this afternoon I got my haircut in Kenton then made it to the Oregon Walks infrastructure committee meeting on Hawthorne, then back to St Johns, which brought me to 992 total miles on my e-bike
trump is in so far over his head and on some level he knows it, he knows he’s cooked
we need safe, protected micromobility networks — this is not just about bikes and it’s definitely not just about abled people
i like wide or two way bike lanes because they allow for safe passing for folks going different speeds, or for folks stopping in the bike way
Every time I read a piece about somebody with an “ai-assisted editing process” I feel like I’m watching someone trying to intellectualize a deliberate choice not to think or concentrate
This post is a major ah ha moment for me. we deserve continuous level surfaces!
PBOT is putting a lot of resources into redoing every curb corner but it sure is easier for a lot of wheeled people to just travel on the street where it’s flat and you’re not going up and down constantly or having to deal with groups or kids or dogs etc on the sidewalk

2-way protected bike lane post of the day
this person was on oxygen and rolling slowly, no lights and on n willamette at dusk
i'm very into this and want to create a website like this for our SE 7th and Sandy project. Also Portland could be doing the Green Loop right with a site like this

this came from receiving a pro bono scope of services that seemed to have run my nuanced application through AI to deliver back a more top-down or paternalistic version of our work that did not reflect the care with which we partner with climate-impacted urban communities. the bias is real
Before they were arrested- Vets are demanding an end to the war on Iran at the Cannon Building in Washington, D.C.
This also solves the problem of water pooling where people are walking and rolling, which can be very dangerous, especially if it freezes and for those with limited mobility.
These are the types of raised/tabled crossings that I want US cities to start building. They're continuous for people walking and biking instead of continuous for drivers (even if they're raised up).
I’ve seen the changes it has done to people’s bodies on the mild end of the spectrum. Unfortunately, I’ve gotten the worse of the LC symptoms. And have dealt with them going on 6 yrs now. Idk if people are in denial but so many are just brushing off the sequelae.
A friend said that she thinks basically everyone has long COVID. It's just going to take time for the damage to show up.
I keep thinking about what COVID does to the brain and I don't think prepared for the likely explosion in neuro disorders.
All because we'd rather be comfortable than safe.
AInxiety is real
In Milwaukee, you can request the city install a bike rack. I know of at least four spots in the city who have bike racks because I requested them!

me being in a subservient role as the small nonprofit who needs volunteers and in kind services should not mean i don't get the power of consent over how you help us
the hill i'm dying on with AI at work is consent. you have to ask and you have to be prepared for the answer to be no
like donald trump, ai is a fascist tool that is occasionally very funny but never on purpose
meme of band student blasting another band student with a massive horn where the horn is labeled partners pushing AI and the victim is labeled tiny nonprofits
monday has me inundated with partners pushing AI on my org and i'm pushing back
