Dying in office because you insisted on clinging to power until the very end instead of letting a new generation of leaders rise should be seen for the shameful, egomaniacal act that it is.

Two things can be true:
Congress should pass uniform, national legislation reining in partisan gerrymandering; and
Until that happens, or every state adopts an independent redistricting commission, neither party is going to (or, frankly, should) unilaterally disarm.
New favourite person found.
On the 1926 census Alice Knox recorded herself as ‘single (thank god)’ and detailed that she was 48 instead of the truth which was that she was 60.
I just know she was class craic
There's a tiny detail in the Atlantic story that reveals how books on pressing news really come together. Reporters don't hold their most important stories for personal gain, the way everyone on Bluesky thinks.
one thing about Mamdani is that he does class politics, but he doesn't really do populism, in the sense that he doesn't generally rail against "elites" as such. 1
Not everything that breaks is technically the fault of vibe coding but the kind of culture that would foster vibe coding is the kind that produces a lot of shit that breaks.

Meanwhile my 23-year-old son majored in computer science because it was practical and guaranteed employment. That turned out just great.
I have been thinking about this a lot. I have been working in tech for thirty years and I'm planning early retirement in a few months because I just can't deal with the AI-ification of everything.
This is not the point of this very good thread but I unironically think I would be fantastic at being an octopus and I'm a little sad that I missed my calling. (But read the whole thread and spare yourself the Ben Sasse/Ross Douthat mutual admiration society.)
Would like to encourage everyone who still has a chip on their shoulder about what "happened to" Al Franken to be less involved in politics and society in general
I am a developer (not at Amazon) and it genuinely is difficult to keep supporting old operating systems. I am surprised they kept them going as long as they did.
We used to live near a Chinese place that served little brownie cubes with fortune cookies and orange slices at the end of the meal. I've never seen it anywhere else though.
Not to mention he will undoubtedly say something weird about autopens or threaten genocide or start talking about 2020 again and that will be the big news coming out of the Artemis landing.
WTF is wrong with 23% of the population?
Speaker Johnson, we are calling on you to bring the House back to DC IMMEDIATELY!
The Cabinet needs to invoke the 25th Amendment. But Congress can’t just sit on its hands and wait for that to happen when the President is threatening to commit war crimes TONIGHT.
Can we stop with the "X is a distraction from Y"? They are all part of the same picture: a man who is greedy, ignorant, hateful, and reckless, leading us off a gigantic cliff in every stupid and corrupt way he knows how.
per last RT i cant believe 11 years into this shit we still have people arguing trump is some deep strategic planner who lays out entire visions. its literally whatevers in front of his face at the minute. its no more complicated than that. there's nothing more. literally what we all see. no more
So far my work day has been very successful in the sense that I haven’t thrown my computer out the window yet
I liked it for the most part, I enjoy a pitch-black comedy, I thought Zendaya was good, I even liked the ending, but I think they leaned toward making a couple of the characters a little _too_ unlikable.
Just saw The Drama and am already looking forward to the #ThisHasOscarBuzz episode two years from now.
Counterpoint: hell is definitely reigning at the moment.
Yep, I loved this book.
Just so you understand, this is as if you prepared for argument in front of a panel that included Cookie Monster, and Cookie Monster asked you a question about cookies, and you had not thought about cookies in advance.
Not feeling a lot of simchat yom tov this year. <gestures broadly at everything>
This may be one of those cases where the right legal result protects unsavory people. In the long run, and especially in the current political environment, I can see this actually being a useful bulwark against efforts to restrict gender-affirming care.
This is also how I feel about the presidency tbh. When Obama was president I sometimes went an entire week without thinking about who was running things. Now my first thought every morning is, "Oh God, what happened while I was sleeping?"
