We are calling on Albany to pass #NY4All, a bill that prohibits local and state agencies from funneling people to ICE detention and deportation. It’s time for leadership that protects everyone, regardless of immigration status. www.safehorizon.org/safe-horizon...

Recent data shows a staggering 76% of advocates report that abusers use the threat of deportation to keep survivors silent. When our neighbors are too afraid to report crimes, our entire community is less safe.
For immigrant New Yorkers who have survived domestic violence, sexual assault, or human trafficking, there is often a second layer of fear: the worry that seeking help could lead to being separated from their homes and families.
“I have kept this secret long enough. My silence ends here.” Dolores Huerta said on Wednesday that she had not previously revealed that Cesar Chavez had pressured and forced her into sex because she didn’t want to tarnish the farmworker rights movement that she had spent so long fighting for.
“All too often, abuse is enabled by people in positions of responsibility who look the other way.” www.silive.com/politics/202...
The decision for survivors to seek justice is deeply personal and often takes time. Virginia's Law honors the reality of this healing process. We're proud to host @schumer.senate.gov, Staten Island DA Michael McMahon, and community partners at our Staten Island CAC to support Virginia’s Law.
Graphic styled like a text message notification over a photo of human services workers rallying inside the New York State Capitol. The message reads: “SOS: Human services workers are at the State Capitol and need backup!! EMAIL LEGISLATORS NOW!” The background shows advocates wearing yellow and holding “Just Pay for Human Services” signs. There is a white #JustPay logo at the top. Date shown: March 9, 2026.

HAPPENING NOW: We are joining nonprofit human services workers in Albany to demand a 2.7% investment on ALL State human services contracts and passage of the Wage Board Bill!

"All a survivor should have to do is call, and all we should be saying in response is, 'I will accept you.' The SAFE Shelter Act is a common-sense solution... it should be passed and signed into law without delay." @voagny.bsky.social @timesunion.com
At a time when demand for specialized homeless youth services is rising, we need stable investment in the people and the systems that support our young people, instead of living with the constant threat of resources being taken away. gothamist.com/news/mayor-m...
Huge congratulations to Insha Rahman on being named the new President of @vera.org and @veraaction.bsky.social! We look forward to continuing our work together to create a more just and equitable system for all New Yorkers and beyond.
A hand holds a postcard with images of protestors demanding fair pay, against a yellow background with the Safe Horizon logo and the text "Demanding #JustPay” and “One postcard at a time."
We’re sending a clear message to @governor.ny.gov and @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social: human service workers deserve fair wages.
One message is easy to overlook, but thousands of postcards are impossible to ignore. Huge thanks to our staff who dropped in to advocate for the #JustPay we all deserve!

A couple weeks ago, we began our Month of Racial Healing with events that allow our staff to step back, restore our energy, and deepen our connections. When we invest in our collective well-being, we strengthen our ability to show up for the survivors and communities we serve every day.
An image featuring two women in a bright room, with the logo of the nonprofit Safe Horizon in the top right corner. One woman, wearing a pink top, smiles warmly while looking at the other woman, who is seen from the back. Overlaid text on a red and dark gradient background reads: "Investing in Safety for All. Thank you Senator Gillibrand and Senator Schumer for securing $500,000 to support survivors of violence in NYC!"
We believe safety is a human right, and we’re so glad to have our Senators standing with us to make sure it is a reality for everyone in our city. 🗽
A huge thank you to @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social and @schumer.senate.gov for securing $500,000 in federal funding to support Safe Horizon’s work.
This funding helps us show up for thousands of individuals and families in New York with the trauma-informed care and support they deserve.

The emergence of AI tools on the platform that generate sexually explicit content of individuals without their consent—often targeting women and children—poses a direct threat to the digital safety we advocate for every day.
At Safe Horizon, we believe everyone has the right to safety, privacy, and dignity. Over the last several months, we have significantly limited our activity on X. Today, we are making our departure official.

By recognizing these trauma reactions as responses to systemic harm, we can start honoring their journey toward recovery. Learn more: www.safehorizon.org/safe-blog/su...
A text-heavy image graphic titled "Trauma Reactions in Families Facing Separation." It lists common reactions in children (such as regression and anxiety) and common reactions in parents (such as guilt and post-traumatic stress).
No matter the circumstances in which a child is separated from their parents, the trauma manifests in powerful ways that affect their development and a parent's well-being. These reactions are not "bad behavior"—they are natural responses to systems that often choose surveillance over support.
We're just past the holidays, and the Trump administration is cruelly trying to withhold over $10 billion in funding for childcare and social services.
I'm suing the administration to ensure families can access the resources they need and deserve.
Rain or shine we show up for Trans youth!
We were honored to stand with so many advocates at yesterday’s Together We Win Rally for Trans Kids. Seeing Union Square filled with supporters reminds us that no matter the weather—or the political climate—we are louder together.
The Trump Admin is threatening to freeze funds used for childcare, shelter and cash assistance. NYC expects $2.5B in this years budget from the very programs they’re threatening.
@newyorkstateag.bsky.social is taking it to court, because losing any part of this would put New Yorkers in jeopardy.
Let’s make this the last January our community goes without these vital protections. Urge your representatives in Albany to support the CREEP Act today! act.safehorizon.org/creep-act
The CREEP Act (A3226/S3394) is a bill in New York state that would ensure every New Yorker—regardless of their relationship to the person stalking them—has a clear and accessible path to security.
Currently, New York is one of only seven states that doesn't offer a civil order of protection for every stalking survivor. This means neighbors, coworkers, or strangers can often harass others without an immediate path to civil safety.
