It’s always possible to bury power lines - it just costs more. The posh village down the valley from us is getting their section of line buried. Why not everyone else?
Not all of us.
Can you think of any neighbouring countries (or inhabitants thereof) to the UK that might dislike Great Britain’s previous (or even recent) colonialist tendencies? I can think of one! Speaking as a Brit.
It is an amazing film but also extremely graphic and upsetting. An anti-war film.
Also “Come and See” is the English title of one horrific and powerful war films I’ve ever seen. Set in Belarus in WW2, it is available in full on YouTube. Strong content warning.
In the UK, people objecting to protected cycle lanes have sometimes used ‘tree preservation’ arguments to maintain space for cars.
I wouldn’t put it past those ‘dogs in a manger’ at K&C to shut the bridge to pedestrians and cyclists out of sheer spite. “Hey, if cars can’t use it, no one should be able to!”
It’s eye-opening to compare the ‘paint marks’ approach in UK villages with actual chicanes and bollards in their French equivalents.
Good news. But Kensington and Chelsea are still blocking safe routes into the city.
Great news about improvements as far as Olympia. What about High Street Kensington? It needs to be taken away from Kensington and Chelsea as they will not do anything to improve safety for vulnerable road users.
But imagine if we had both elements in the UK. It might make drivers a bit more cautious, eg at zebra crossings.
I studied philosophy too. I wanted to engage with something more logically consistent than English literature, but less detail-bound than history (although I studied history too). I don’t regret the choice either. It’s definitely good for your writing and thinking!
Was Olney there?
Keep kissing those boots, Lee. Or driving gloves, perhaps.
But that’s not going to happen. I guess we should continue to wear our hi-viz stars until things change, eh?
You’re missing the big picture. It’s just an excuse not to do anything else to fix the roads. It’s like trying to fix bus transportation by making ethnic minorities give up their seats for white folks.
I wear a helmet if I’m riding a road bike, especially in hilly terrain (like Cymru). I do not wear a helmet while riding a few minutes to the shop. Why should I? It’s no different from walking?
Maybe YOU shouldn’t be riding a bicycle, but why use that as an argument to inconvenience and disincentivise urban bicycle usage?
Your ‘bike’? You mean your motorbike. Not the same.
Women to be banned from wearing short skirts for fear of encouraging rapists.
Neither Coleman nor Anderson represent the constituencies on either side of Hammersmith Bridge.
Much improved street space allocation, but that’s a hideous new building in the centre.
Many congratulations to Sabine. My daughters cycle to secondary school, and the most important thing for us has been the closure of Hammersmith Bridge to motor traffic, which has created a safer, quieter route for the majority of the journey.
Rode home down Kensington High Street today (again) in rush hour. Very dangerous and stressful. There should have been a protected cycle lane there but the council ripped it out. There’s your problem in West London.
Is this some kind of Darth Vader fetish thing?
The audiobook we listened to repeatedly on journeys up and down the M1 was Nicol Williamson’s version of “The Hobbit”, which I was delighted to find on YouTube m.youtube.com/watch?v=msbn...
Nick Ferrari looks more like the spitting image of Uncle Monty from Withnail everyday.
This is why Paris is better than London (spoken as a Londoner from birth).
Bus drivers are sometimes some of the more dangerous road users that I have to deal with on my commute to work into central London (by bicycle).
