Bit of behind-the-scenes from the basement studio

Japanese art books. The left book features Oswaldo Kato among other illustrators creating fantasy worlds. The right book is Oswaldo Kato’s illustration master class.
More art books from Japan. I love the illustrations of Oswaldo Kato @oswaldokk.bsky.social. I skimmed a few pages and there’s so much to study and try. #art #books
Warm white book cover of the Shadow of the Colossus art book. Black obi strip wraps around the bottom of the dust jacket. All text written in Japanese. #art #game
Inside pages of the Shadow of the Colossus art book. Left page details logo variations, graphical symbols used in game, and concept art of the main character facing a large stone structure. Right page features concept art of colossi featured in game. They are sketches of the bosses showing their enormous scale, body language, and shape design that crosses between gigantic animals and architecture. #art #game
It only took 20 years, but I finally own a physical copy of the Shadow of the Colossus art book. It’s used of course, so there’s some yellowing on the dust jacket. The pages are in perfect condition though.
I appreciate it!
I just got flooded with a bunch of memories of watching this and Transformers Beast Wars.
Not sure how much game dev experience you have, but as someone who’s had the same desire, I’d try to make it as small and simple as possible. Just to learn the pipeline and see how my idea looks and functions. Could even be substituting a tutorial with your own stop motion assets.
Many thanks!
Something I haven’t mentioned anywhere, I didn’t record any LAV or have a reference for animating this. Was tight on time, so I was just acting out the movements every frame. Thank god I didn’t hit the tripod.
Milo animation test 02. He might collect items like puffy stars in his world. This one is floating above a rock with glowing glyphs. #stopmotion #indieanimation #art #needlefelting #oc
Excited to follow the progress on this. Relatedly, would love to see a vid on how you manage personal projects. Things like time management and being overwhelmed by the scope are still a struggle for me.
Milo animation test 01. Been a while since I did puppet animation. Trying to get a feel for how he moves with short limbs. #stopmotion #indieanimation #needlefelting #art #oc
Looks awesome! Must be exciting to have a physical print.
Mushishi manga with special shikishi board to the right.
Back cover of Mushishi manga.
Spine view of Mushishi manga.
My Mushishi Collector’s Edition Vol 1 arrived. This is the Kinokuniya cover variant which came with a shikishi. I’ve been waiting over a decade for a new English manga release as the original run is so expensive. I’m incredibly happy right now.

Painting the calico cat pattern on the clay keychain.
Painting the nose onto the calico cat clay keychain.
Made myself a keychain with clay and resin. I still haven’t settled on a design for Mug Cat but this version is my favorite so far. Currently editing the full art process for YouTube.

Grouped all the automata toys I’ve made so far and animated them. It’s cool to see the little ways I experimented with each one and how that compounded over time.

A range of paint palettes. Upper left is a plastic palette with wells. Bottom left is a small silicone palette with wells. Right is a large ceramic palette tray. #art #painting
I tried a ceramic palette for the first time. Might be my favorite in terms of cleaning acrylic and gouache paint. I always struggled with the plastic one (upper left). The silicone (bottom left) was decent, but my art projects outgrew the small size.
I made another Halloween automata toy for this year. It’s a tiny witch popping out of a cauldron. Full process of how I made it over on YouTube. youtu.be/tA0jOQEVDsE

Thanks, Shogo! 🙏
Love that cover! Excited to see how this project goes.
Finished making another automata toy. It’s a simple spinning carousel. Made of basswood, brass, clay, and acrylic paint. Full art process on YouTube: youtu.be/17ON2DSrKVU

Completely understand. There’s a bit of pressure to be “on brand” for an audience. But it kinds of kills creativity for me, so I try experiment and explore as much as I can. I hope you’ll post more of your other works sometime!
These are great! It’s really impressive seeing how far your range goes. I just learned about artfight the other week and I wish I knew about it sooner.
Hi #PortfolioDay. I finally updated my stop motion showreel. Includes personal and freelance work. I’m open for animation and puppet fabrication opportunities.

Huge congrats! Glad to see the journey continue. 🙂
Thanks for sharing this! It’s always insightful to see how other artists approach their work. The final piece turned out very comfy. 🙂
I made this mini spring ride toy of a bunny and whale. It’s part of my list of projects where I’m exploring motion and animation in different ways.

Digital painting practice from last night. There’s a lot to be improved upon, so I’d like to revisit this idea someday. #art #procreate
I was wondering if there’s plans to maybe post some clips or screenshots on social media? I think people tend to gravitate to them more than links.
Really love how calming this feels 🙂
Happy bday!
