A tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die.

Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.

I was proud to write for the New York Times for more than 20 years, but I’m not proud of the newspaper’s buried coverage of the nationwide #handsoff protests. Compare the printed front page today to 1970 Earth Day.

I don't like "Your first draft will be shitty" as advice, because it's a really negative framing.

I prefer, "You have the freedom to be messy creating your first draft."

Anyone crafter knows what their room looks like mid-creation. Writers should be as free to be as exhuberent and messy.

How your money is helping subsidise sexism in academia – and what you can do about it Studies reveal women’s research receives tougher assessment, less funding, fewer prizes and less citation than men’s.

A 2023 study of almost a quarter of a million US academics showed that women are leaving research at much higher rates than men are, and toxic workplaces is the number one reason. What can be done about it? #AcademicChatter #Academia #STEM #sciencejobs theconversation.com/how-your-mon...

An interesting finding, but this abstract is *so good.* It reads as such an accessible and compelling summary of the research. No jargon. Clear narrative. Anybody would understand the key point from it.

Something to aspire to.
