The NYT has a piece this morning of trump’s (and Biden’s) attempts to sell Americans on how great the “economy” is and how we just aren’t buying it despite the (oft cherry picked) data. I have an alternative analysis @nytimes.com: “economics” itself is the problem. It’s more propaganda than science.

Opinion | Democracy Dies by Database

Control of our data is the biggest civil liberties issue being revealed by this administration’s assault on the American people. We need a constitutional amendment to bring our privacy rights up to date with the 21st century.

If we want stable populations of thriving families, we are not going to get there by simply paying a baby bounty. We need real substantial changes to the economic realities that shape our society. Capitalist solutions to happiness problems will always fall short because their incentives are wrong

“The thing to do, they said, was to continue on as usual”
-The Handmaid’s Tale, Atwood 1985 describing how Gilead took over the United States. Democracy, what little of it we have, is fragile and requires us to actively defend it, or lose it.

To be fair, the government not doing much is part of trump’s plan

The Plot Against America How a Dangerous Ideology Born From the Libertarian Movement Stands Ready to Seize America

Light reading to better understand that Trump is the hammer, not the carpenter. When Thiel says that democracy and freedom are incompatible, it begs the question of freedom for whom?

Most anti-Chinese propaganda completely missed the mark because we assume our system is the best system and are unable to comprehend that the Chinese form of communism does indeed have not just different motives and methods but even different goals.

Republicans Scared to Call Jan. 6 Witness After Sending Sexual Texts House Republicans are suddenly afraid of subpoenaing Cassidy Hutchinson for fear that she could leak some sexually explicit texts.

One of House Speaker Mike Johnson’s aides warned Republicans not to subpoena former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson because doing so would likely reveal all of the sexually explicit text messages Republicans have been sending Hutchinson since 2018.

It’s built into the nature of conservatism: Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect (“wilhoit’s law”)

So I’m actually floored that I went over to Twitter and checked the comments on Andy Ogles brag post and 90% of his trump loving base thinks this is a very bad or stupid idea. Many if not most, do not want a trump third term. Many of them want term limits for congress, not more time for trump

REAL TALK
“What makes men obey or tolerate real power and, on the other hand, hate people who have wealth without power, is the rational instinct that power has a certain function and is of some general use. Even exploitation and oppression still make society work and establish some kind of order.”

At what point will conservative supporting populist citizens wake up to the fact that the US government has been controlled by conservative ideology for over four decades and that’s why we are where we are today?

The Moment calls for less hysteria and more plans. Things aka the government of the US are not actually great. The GOP plan to disassemble everything is likely going to be disastrous. There’s opportunity for a better world if we have the vision and imagination to make it better.

What Israel is doing now to Gaza is not making Jews in New York City safer, it’s making NYC less safe for everyone. Set the table for terrorism and terrorists will come to dinner. #neveragain #ceasefirenow

Is the NY restaurant industry on the verge of collapse? With average new restaurant rents in this city hitting five figures a month, how do the majority of places survive? The pressure to gross over 6 figures a month is daunting for anyone but the deepest pocketed restaruant groups
