This isn't any special issue, it is a is a bit more like a special book. Who hasn't wanted to be in a book? Three major tephra themes: reconstruction of past eruptions, generation and dispersion, and forecasting. Check out the flyer! Spread the word!

It was fun walking home in the blizzard last night. Down pants, mitts and something to cover the face. All good. #yeg

Also, June Lake had snow yesterday too. Next door to some of the coolest volcanoes ever, the Mono-Inyo Craters.

I found this a powerful article. The entire toxic empathy part is mind-boggling. It is easy to be hateful, self-interested, and only take care of yourself. It is hard to be caring, empathetic and vulnerable. To give a shit. These ass-hats take the easy way out.

This is one of my absolutely favourite movies. It is so absurd and amazing. I have no idea how many times I have watched it. However it probably has been a couple years, so I know what I am watching this weekend!

This is an wonderful documentary. It shows how important international science ventures are, and highlights the Earth Sciences. One of the most important subjects that isn’t taught in most K-12 schools, creating a crisis in illiteracy about our planet with major consequences. Watch it 🧪⚒️

Meant to quote repost. Interesting article, not what you would think. The way they advertise this is a bit misleading. The offset was by 38–48%, so a partial offset. Not “offsetting wildfire emissions”, which suggests something more significant. At least to me. 🧪

We actually just got approval to hire a hydrogeologist before this: neglect from the powers that be meant we got to point ( in Alberta of all places!!) this year where we had zero hydrogeologists on faculty. They realized that was bad. Will post the advert once I get my greedy little paws on it!

UAlberta not moving as fast as the UCalgary, but word on the street is that we might have something to announce soon(ish) too, so please keep you eyes open and fingers crossed 🤞
Will be wonderful to see some reinvestments in some world class Geoscience departments!!

If you are interested in studying participatory cryosphere science or permafrost science feel free to reach out about these opportunities. Will be recirculating in early January. Also for international scholars there's a new funding opportunity for postdocs where these projects could apply as well!

I think you could lessen the firestorm this has started (pun, intended) by making this opt-in. Firefox has been my go to browser since you started. Please, don’t start acting like the others now. Give us the choice please. I don’t want to start over with a new browser, but will. @firefox.com

I am extremely disappointed. As the largest geoscience organization in the world, they need to reset. This situation isn’t going away soon-they need to adjust if they truly believe in their own mantra of ‘Science Connects’. It doesn’t if you can’t afford it and can’t do anything online. #AGU2025

It seems like the AGU could have safely assumed many had online as the only choice. But the online experience is so bad (& expensive!) that is seems designed to push in person attendance, which they simply can’t do. I hope I am wrong, but it is hard to believe this isn’t the case. Inclusive, nope! 🧵

NOT a boycott (although there is that), but a genuine concern of being detained. Trans friends, those from “undesirable” countries. Simply unsafe. So how about online? Online is garbage. I couldn’t attend my own invited talk! Just pre-recorded and played in the room, no clue what was going on 🧵

4 months ago 2 0 1 0

#AGU Long time member & attendee. For several years it feels like they lost the plot, extortionate, and the meetings seem more about cramming more in than quality exchange. I was unable to attend for personal reasons, but there are others who couldn’t attend because they didn’t know if it was SAFE 🧵
