The Dilley detention center should be shut down immediately. Because of the close-quarter conditions at Dilley, lack of prompt medical response and capacity, and lack of expertise with diseases such as measles, Dilley is not equipped to combat any spread.
Today, Rep. Castro and I visited precious Liam and his father, Adrian, at the Dilley Detention Center.
My heart absolutely breaks for Liam, his family, and every person being wrongfully detained.
The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
One of the best things I’ve read in a while:
A man has been killed. Children have been detained. Families are being separated.
This cannot be how we carry out public policy.
We owe people better, and we owe them accountability.
Alex Pretti was a colleague at the VA. We hired him to recruit for our trial. He became an ICU nurse- I lover working with him. He was a good kind person who lived to help and these fuckers executed him.

This was never about “protecting” college seats for U.S. citizens. ... It has always been about fear—about sending a chilling message to undocumented youth that they are not welcome, no matter how long they’ve lived here, how hard they’ve worked, or how much they’ve already given back.
