With Govt's changes to settlement, many more people will be trapped in temporary status for decades, lives dictated by the next Home Office decision. If NHS continues to act as a data-sharing arm for the Home Office, its going to be difficult to convince pple to trust the NHS when next crisis hits.

Also much needed acknowledgment of the experiences of our patients who wanted to get vaccinated but were unable to.

Disappointingly, this was not followed through in the recommendations; the Inquiry did not call for the charging policy or data-sharing practices to cease.

Over the last 4 yrs, @dotwuk.bsky.social has participated in the UK COVID-19 Inquiry. Yesterday the Inquiry published its report on vaccines and therapeutics.

It is a huge win to see the Inquiry officially recognise that NHS migrant charging and Home Office data-sharing undermined vaccine uptake.

More than 50 young asylum seekers have died in UK since 2015, data shows Figures gathered from children’s services and health trusts show 31 deaths were suicides, including six in under-18s

Utterly horrifying.

These young people sought safety here in the UK. Not only did our Government fail to protect them, it's still fighting not to release information about the deaths of people seeking sanctuary.

Home Office to announce closure of 11 asylum hotels in next week Exclusive: closures are part of pledge by Labour to end all use of hotels for asylum seekers by end of this parliament

This is bittersweet news.

We agree, all hotels must close - but replacing them with large, prison-like camps simply shifts the harm elsewhere.

#CommunitiesNotCamps are essential for people seeking safety to rebuild their lives and heal.

Four people die in Channel small-boat sinking At least 42 others rescued after incident in strong currents off coast of Boulogne

Today’s reminder: we need safe routes now.

Four lives were lost in the Channel yesterday. Once again, without safe pathways to asylum, people are forced to risk their lives.

This is the result of political choices. It must change.

EU healthcare workers say they ‘refuse to be instruments’ in deportation plans Professionals from across Europe urge MEPs to reject plans, saying ‘climate of fear’ could stop people seeking care

“In our UK clinics, patients are already too afraid to seek NHS care in case it leads to an ICE-style raid at their home address.”

Over 1,000 healthcare professionals warn the EU’s far-right deportation plans could create the same climate of fear across Europe.

Deaths in the Channel soared after signing of UK-France deal, report warns Exclusive: Deadly incidents have moved closer to the French shore in recent years, new analysis shows

New analysis shows state policies to stop small boat crossings are driving deaths in the Channel.

Border policing doesn’t save lives - it forces people into deadlier routes.

It's clearer than ever: deterrence policies don't work. We must open safe routes now.

Far-right hate is pushing people away from healthcare. Many avoid care or are excluded due to fear & hostile policies.

We condemn all forms of anti-semitism and attacks on healthcare 🛑

Today's arson attacks on charity ambulances are appalling and reflect a rise in hate crimes against minority communities in the UK. Attacks on health facilities undermine essential care. We must choose humanity over hostility.

Spain to extend free healthcare to irregular immigrants Spain will expand free healthcare to undocumented migrants under new plans. This follows the announcement earlier in the year that the government would regularize 500,000 irregular migrants already in...

UK, it’s time to catch up.

Instead of pushing an anti-migrant agenda, Spain has recognised healthcare as the universal human right it is. All pregnant women and survivors of gender-based violence and torture, can now get the medical care they need without crippling fees.

'Sick kids could be deported even if treatment not available at home' warning The Home Office is consulting on plans which would see ongoing medical treatment and unavailability of care in a failed asylum seeker's homeland not viewed as a 'genuine obstacle' to removal

Deporting sick children is a new low for our government.

Stability is vital for child development, especially for kids who have faced trauma. Forced removals risk ending lifesaving medical care while tearing them from school and everything they know.

Refugee status to be temporary as Shabana Mahmood rips up rules on UK asylum Home secretary announces 30-month protection limit, with refugees required to leave if their home countries are later judged safe

Harsh asylum rules do not stop people fleeing war or abuse.

Temporary status only traps traumatised people in a constant state of uncertainty, denying people the stability they need to rebuild their lives.

This is the opposite of the protection our asylum system should provide.

Reform would create ICE-style agency and end leave to remain, Zia Yusuf to say Nigel Farage’s party plans to deport up to 288,000 people a year on five flights a day and expand stop and search

ICE kills in the US - so why is Reform pushing for the same approach here?

This would mean neighbours terrorised in health facilities, leaving people too scared to get the healthcare they need. It’s a nightmare for everyone, including public health.
