Ossoff: "The president owes Americans a real explanation. 2am posts on Truth Social just aren't good enough when you're sending Americans into combat. He was dancing at his beach club the same night he ordered air crews to launch into combat & hours before our service members endured missile salvos"

The glibness. The indifference. The carelessness. The utter lack of planning for a war against a country of 90M. The sickness of a man who acts on whim that will kill thousands not hundreds. The horror of a regime that enables this sickness. The broken body politic that votes in such malignancy.

when people point back at Reconstruction to explain where we are as a country (a good impulse) its often to claim that Reconstruction completely failed

I'd say it's more like: Reconstruction was partial and compromised, which kept the Civil War going as a domestic political battle vs a won war

Listening to the GOP call Iran a murderous authoritarian regime made me think about the fact the US is also a murderous authoritarian regime. Happy Monday.

Trump was briefed this was the riskiest US military operation since the Iraq invasion of 2003.
He was told American lives would be lost.
He was told Iranian missiles could overwhelm our air defenses.
He proceeded anyway.
No congressional authorization.

Trump just launched a war in Iran — without Congress and without a plan.

As a 25-year vet who served in Iraq, I’ve seen how wars begin and how hard they are to end. Regime change from the air won’t work — but American troops will pay the price.

This is not peace. It’s chaos.

We’re such a fucking sick, evil country. It’s the exact same playbook as Iraq and Afghanistan. This was always the end goal.

Trump’s unprovoked attack on Iran has no mandate – or legal basis US president violates UN charter just days into his Board of Peace era, and chooses to take the biggest gamble of his administration

“In 2003, the road to war in Iraq was paved with lies about nonexistent weapons of mass destruction.

The path to a new conflict in Iran 23 years later has been lined largely with incoherence or silence.”

Opinion | The U.S. should wage war only when it must. This isn’t one of those times. Trump criticized the Iraq War. Now he’s making the same mistakes.

My big takeaway from the invasion of Iraq—which I regret having supported—is that the US should go to war only when it has to. It should not engage in preventative wars against nebulous threats based on suspect intelligence and without a clear endgame. Yet here we go again. wapo.st/4seF5K1

Donald Trump just bombed Iran...a country with 92 million people. This is not Venezuela, Iraq, or Kuwait. This is not a joke. This mother fucker just started a war. Why do you think this is happening? Who benefits? What are we going to do about this America?

the fact the president of the united states is even thinking about asserting emergency powers to disrupt an election - just a few years after he incited an armed coup attempt - should be the top issue. but the media mostly shrugs and the opposition doesnt focus on it.

Americans Are Leaving the U.S. in Record Numbers More citizens are replanting overseas, drawn by a quality of life made easily affordable by the U.S.’s enviable salaries.

This is such a well done piece that reports out, with hard data and interviews, something profound about what's gone wrong in this country.

What's the use of democracy if the media is allowed to lie to the public and therefore influence their voting? We have churches that do not pay taxes directly influencing people's votes. And this is what democracy is. It's bullshit. It doesn't work like we're supposed to believe.
