In storytimes centered around the theme of multicultural families, kids waved rainbow ribbons to the song, "It's a Small World", read stories about human and animal families, and got global to the tune of "This Little Light of Mine".
Sachem Public Library recently visited our local Head Start chapter to help celebrate the Week of the Young Child.
Last week we held our Local Author Fair. We hosted over 50 authors and celebrated our love of reading together. It was a wonderful way to discover new authors to read!

Kids learned a delicious lesson in baking science while making edible cookie dough with Miss Marybeth. We started with a baking soda experiment that shows why cakes rise. After talking about what different ingredients add to a recipe, kids measured and mixed their way to a yummy, chocolate treat!
🌈☘️We had had a blast with Miss Jen as we learned about St. Patrick’s Day through stories, games, crafts and music!☘️🌈
We created colorful Northern Lights drawings using oil pastels with Miss Jenna. 🎨
It's not too early to start planning for summer camp. Booklets are now available in our Children's Department! 🏕️
We shared winter memories, sang festive tunes, and got creative with winter crafts. Miss Jenna brought hot cocoa for everyone to enjoy!☕️

We painted our own 3D printed Pokémon characters last week with Miss Amanda!
Kids learned their colors in a "feed the penguin" game, marched off on polar bear hunt and learned a new, big word - "companion" - from the beloved picture book Tacky the Penguin. Hugs and happiness abounded!

What a night! Sachem Library Night at the Stony Brook Seawolves hockey game was full of excitement. The Seawolves gave it their all in an overtime battle, and Chippy loved meeting the players.
Sachem Library librarians went up to Albany yesterday for Library Advocacy Day. They spoke to senators and assemblymen about many topics important to New York libraries - intellectual freedom, ebook licensing reform, & media literacy.
