Negaposi Angler's diverse cast adds to the found family angle, and I love Ice as a literalization of Taniguchi's range as a designer. She has an uncanny range from the most elegant to the goofiest blobs, best exemplified by the gremlin girl being almost unrecognizable as her model/cosplayer persona
In the late 00s/early 10s, Hiromi Taniguchi was in the Chuo Line Anime Sisters circle alongside yonemai, Kana Shundo, and Natsuki Yokoyama. They were up-and-coming women at Gainax with an interest in fashion so it makes sense that they became so tight, since their trendy tendencies set them apart

Continue to be fond of Negaposi Angler's friction. As the tale of a terminal patient in debt, it's not easy to swallow, yet it also won't let you fully immerse in a downer atmosphere - not just because the overarching story should be uplifting, but because the moment-to-moment is lively & cartoony
