Phillies fans coming into the year: yeah this Mets experiment ain’t gonna work

Mets fans: Dombrowski’s team has its run and that run is about to end

Maybe everyone is right!

I have the recap

You’re not wrong

This is not the Girardi situation. Dombrowski wasn’t committed to Joe Girardi at all. He forgot Joe even had a club option at one point.

I think firing a manager you thought was worth committing to a few months ago is a massive sign of incompetence

I’m not worried about the bottom falling out. Would have to go on a lot longer. Im a little concerned this is like a 82-86 win team that has to fight for a playoff spot. Maybe they rattle a bunch off but they have to play the Cubs and Braves again

Michael Conforto doubling home Scott Kingery off of Devin Williams to tie the game in the ninth inning is the funniest Mets moment of two-week stretch of very funny Mets moments.

I would say that doing the thing everyone is waiting for you to do might not be the worst thing. It did work with Joe Girardi in Philadelphia

It’s Sale so idk but tonight had the makings of getting a team out of a funk. It’s the kind of thing that got the team out of a funk or sparked something in the past

Marsh robbed a homer, Felix Reyes hit a homer off a former Cy Young winner on his first career AB, and Cris Sanchez was filthy

The Phillies lost 3-1. They’re 8-12 on the year

Most encouraging Alvarado outing of the year at least

Not when Bohm, Stott, and Turner (likely) start hitting better

Even Steven!

There have been cases of that and cases that weren’t as direct. I think writing off the luck stuff is disingenuous (but so is blaming all of this on luck)

I don’t think the unluckiness tells the full story either. They’re not playing sharp and theyve had bad at bats.

2 days ago 1 0 1 0

Coming into tonight their BABIP allowed is 31 points higher than the next worst team. They have the third best FIP in baseball but third worst ERA

They’re not playing sharp but there is a lot bad variance here

2 days ago 1 0 2 0

The unluckiness is a thing but they haven’t been a sharp defensive team this year. Thats the sort of inning where not being sharp then leads to more chances for luck to swing

The Weston Wilson

I’m not sure what’s worse
- wasting Harper’s hot streak
- wasting Adolis Garcia’s plate discipline streak

But he’s not Joey Gallo!

The Exciting Paradox of Felix Reyes If you were to list the two most important skills for a hitter to have it might start with raw power and contact in the strike zone. Felix Reyes hits the ball very hard. This year he has a max exit velocity of 115.0 mph and a 90th percentile exit velocity of 105.4 mph. Given that power, it is extremely impressive he has a zone contact rate of 84.4% this year, which is actually low for him historically.

The Exciting Paradox of Felix Reyes

Reyes has been one of my favorite under the radar prospects in the org for half a decade and I am excited for him. However, he is a player of extremes and you are betting on one of those showing up more than the others.

And there wasn’t a bad contract (like they should’ve moved on from Casty earlier but that contract was impossible) or anything. They just didnt make the move

You can see how they got to the conclusion they got to with Bohm but they benched him in the 2024 NLDS, which almost always signals they’re moving on from a guy and then just… didn’t

This was my theory behind trading Strahm. Phillies got the better reliever in that deal

3 days ago 1 0 0 0

He had a 5.07 FIP with a completely altered pitch mix to make up for diminished stuff. I have a general theory that the league adjusts and you need constant pivots. He was never going to have them

Reporters asking about these things is not a bad thing for the league! It means people care! I guess the league doesn’t want people to care
