don’t let denial’s sweet nothings lull you into ignoring the very real stakes; i get masking can *feel* as futile as using a recycling bin that's actually just trash, but it just isn’t—the choice to mask breaks chains of transmission that can grow exponentially. want change? make it happen: mask up.

looking at you, folks who scoff at wearing masks in, at the very least, indoor public spaces even as we watch the wanton destruction of our public health system & collapse of healthcare infrastructure.

When you get your COVID vaccine don't forget to thank the COVID conscious people whose activism forces our government to keep it available.

if you care to think of yourself as an ally to marginalized people, as a comrade of mine, but you are not wearing a respirator at a protest? you’re not wearing one on transit you took to and from? why?

who are your actions in alignment with?

Ableism is everywhere. People discriminate against and judge disabled people for simply existing.

When they become disabled, they’re often “shocked” to realize everything we’ve said is true.

The supports aren’t there.

You can’t “just try harder”.

Survival is not easy.

respirators are means of liberation; maintaining health by protecting our lungs from airborne irritants, be they allergens, smoke, pathogens.

this modern, multi-use tool is the thing you’re looking for. it shows others, as we go about our days, that things are not normal, that they could be better.

even the smartest folks whose takes i otherwise appreciate, who otherwise want to resist fascism themselves & encourage others to, find wearing a mask in, at least, public indoor spaces—to prevent the harms of this administration from impacting others—to be a bridge too far; it’s shameful, frankly.

This is the same eugenic belief system that many still hold re: the ongoing pandemic. They believe people’s deaths from covid are acceptable if they’re medically vulnerable. It’s a disgusting ableist belief system and this rhetoric surrounding children in Gaza is the natural consequence of that

Happy to answer any Q's!! Those are all the things I would attempt if I had the means/access to try to avoid infection but of course many reasons why folks may not want to use all of them etc etc

n95+sip valve, CPC mouthwash before & after removing mask for the day, betadine/Nasitrol spray before & after removing mask, stoggles, saline nasal rinse at the end of the day after big exposure risk, blisk12 probiotics everyday a couple weeks leading up to and after exposure ♥️

i avoid commenting on celebrity passings due to the parasociality of the thing but David Lynch was an artist’s artist and a reminder to never explain yourself (when you don’t want to). one of the greatest filmmakers to ever do it.

this is absolutely the case. it’s all i hear—& don’t hear—when i hand out free masks at these tables, from my bag at events, or frankly just wearing a mask in public; the trauma simmers in pointed stares & silences until someone, something (my mask) gives permission for it to come out.

Folks do not want to acknowledge this, even though an unmasked face in a public space—behavior identical to those they’d swear up & down are ideological opposites—says it all.

It’s uncomfy! Why not push that cognitive dissonance off til later!

Don’t you know we have thirty minutes…?

what’s holding you back? that no one else in your life is acknowledging ongoing airborne risks? @timothysnyder.bsky.social has wisdom here: STAND OUT.

it’s easy to fall in step with maskless faces around you. break the spell, break the chains of transmission, break this eugenic nightmare facing us.

How COVID Helped Trump Win Biden never ended the pandemic, but he did end government efforts to mitigate its worst impacts

Liberals joined conservatives to mainstream anti-vax beliefs about viruses and public health Viruses are bad for kids' health. Public health is a collective effort. Liberals no longer believe either.

I’m sorry but shut the fuck up about contracting disease under RFK when liberal and many leftists have been championing core anti vaxx ideology for years now under Biden

@juliadoubleday.bsky.social breaks it down so well here: www.thegauntlet.news/p/liberals-j...

If ur not masking, have dropped all covid protections, believe that being endlessly reinfected w a BSL-3 pathogen is totally fine, then you support Bhattacharya’s far right anti public health ideology!

The anti-public health Great Barrington Declaration *has been Democrat policy* for FOUR YEARS

Dems spent 4 years normalizing Jay Bhattacharya’s entire world view in order to justify repeated, unending Covid infections, & despite the fact that thousands are still dying a month & millions are permanently disabled by long COVID liberals STILL agree w him now www.thegauntlet.news/p/liberals-j...

Incredible article outlining a good few reasons people across the political spectrum took their masks off once “their guy” refused to wear one himself—thereby infecting those they deem worthy of suffering (hint: it’s disabled people every time).

Landing stuck with pandemic in past tense language.

[Diet culture]

if you're wondering why so many people are doing a "carnivore diet" rn

it's partly because of all in usual diet/wellness industry crap

but also because we are (still) in a pandemic, and that virus can fuck with your ability to digest plants

Liberal Media Is Betraying Trans People "There is a direct line from the discourse to these policies."

in light of the latest effort from the New York Times to launder anti-trans rhetoric cloaked as “being reasonable,” a reminder that this is a part of their—and liberal media, writ large—yearslong effort to make transphobia more acceptable, basically co-writing and -signing anti-trans legislation

This is probably the number one disconnect I encounter when trying to figure out if someone is covid-cautious

Back when I was more active on dating apps, and had a very obvious "describe your covid precautions when sending me a like!" note, most people simply mentioned vaccines (if anything at all)

Oh my god. I had no idea:

Medicaid: 73 million low-income people are exposed to AI-related decision-making

SNAP: 42 million low-income people are exposed to AI-related decision-making

Social Security disability benefits: About 13.8 million people are exposed to AI-related decision-making

I know everyone is talking about Matt Gaetz but please don't miss this:

Georgia fired every single person on its maternal mortality review committee. Why? They didn't like that reporters found out that the state's ban killed two women www.propublica.org/article/geor...
