Six years since my last surgery on my scalp. The Friday before this I had the last bit of basal cell carcinoma removed and this was me after having my scalp properly sewed back up by a plastic surgeon (and I now have a really cool scar).

It has been 0 days since I made a suggestion in a work call only to have a male coworker repeat the same thing a few minutes later before it’s seen as a good idea.

Potentially really weird question:

Anyone with Rheumatoid Arthritis have like, debilitating tailbone pain?

It hurts to sit or stand. Even sitting up in bed, on a comfy mattress isn’t really comfortable.

I have not fallen, no injury. Just pain!

YES, the US book and publishing market absolutely affects the Canadian market. They’re putting out literal millions of titles per year to our 10,000. So the US administration’s chilling effect on #LGBTQ publishing will change what new books you’ll get to read in the next few years.

What can you do?

- Follow queer authors and their publishers (check out those Canadian and small and academic presses).
- Follow literary journals that feature queer work. Share their content.
- Most of all, buy their books new whenever you can! Sales of new books determine whether a category will be supported, or an individual author’s next book will make it to print. (Even indie authors have to feel like they can get their books out and recoup their costs.)

And do your book shopping in queer spaces where queer and diverse books are prioritized. Spaces like this only exist if you buy books from them. (US friends, this goes for you too.)

I hate to keep pushing, but my books are some of the only reliable income I have. If you can, please pre-order my new novel, By The Way, and support an indie and LGBTQ+ author and illustrator!

It’s been two weeks of migraines like every other day. Gradually getting worse.

I’m frustrated.

I gave it time, thinking I just needed to allow my brain to adjust.

I also take 500mg of magnesium every day and it genuinely helps too, but obviously not enough.

I get migraines and I was taking 2 prescribed meds to help prevent them.
(I also take a med when I get a migraine)

I got put on beta blockers because the original preventative wasn’t cutting it, so we thought maybe I could stop the first preventative I was prescribed.

We were wrong.

The ICE agent who shot Marimar Martinez in Chicago tried to goad her out of her car.

He said “do something b*tch” and shot her 5 times.

The ICE agent who shot Nicole Renee Good did the same thing. Stood right in front of her vehicle and yelled “f*cking bitch”.

They hate women & it shows.

The US government is lying about the murder of Renee Good because they're using the same playbook they have with facts & evidence since Trump entered politics.

Facts don't matter.
Evidence doesn't matter.
We the People don't matter.

The only thing that matters is their power over us.

I would, fairly often, get called Melissa Doughwright and they would even spell it like that.

And I always thought, ‘No one has the last name Doughwright, wth is this’.

And now. This book. And apparently there are Doughright’s.

I just finished Well, Actually by Mazey Eddings. I genuinely liked the book, that was all good. However!!

My last name used to be Douthwright. And it was an endless nightmare of being spelling and pronouncing it wrong.

Farmers are celebrating the bailout as “Christmas coming early.” Meanwhile, many of the same voices insisted students didn’t deserve loan relief because they should “pull themselves up by their bootstraps.”

Village at war over plan to build new homes on Jane Austen countryside The rolling fields of east Hampshire are said to have helped the author pen some of her most famous novels, including Pride and Prejudice - but locals now fear they will soon be "concreted over"

Yes, I know The Mirror is not a bastion of truth sometimes, but other news sites reporting this are all paywalled.

Turning antisemitism into a weird game like this doesn’t seem like the best way to protect Jewish people. Also, can I just say, the non-stop harassment of Ms. Rachel in particular for just saying “please stop killing Palestinian children and their families” is bone chilling.

Breaking: Canadian Prime Minister and Alberta Premier sign deal that will quash Indigenous rights, provoke a wave of backlash and opposition unlike anything every seen in Canada, and roll back big climate protections to benefit a handful of foreign owned oil and gas companies.

How Fossil Fuel Money Made Climate Change Denial the Word of God Splinter is your home for news and opinions that challenge power in our political and economic system that's becoming more unhinged each and every day.

"Conservative groups, funded by fossil fuel magnates, spend $1B/yr interfering with public understanding of what is happening to our world. Few investments rival the return they've gotten from evangelicals."

An oldie but goodie makes the link between fossil fuels, climate denial, and U.S. religion.
