First polls suggest a clear rejection of the far-right initiative that demanded to cut fees for public broadcasting in half.
According to the most recent Global Gender Gap report published by the WEF, the Netherlands has dropped from 28th to 43rd place in the rankings. The low ranking is mostly due to only two of the index’s metrics – economic and political representation.

Really looking forward to this seminar by @turnbulldugarte.com on Thursday. Drop by if you are in Oxford (+ for drinks after) or join online. Stuart is an amazing speaker and this research is as timely as ever.
'Remigration' is on its way to become a #farright master frame, but what does it actually mean? In Germany (somewhat unsurprisingly), that's 𝘢𝘭𝘴𝘰 a legal-constitutional question, with implications for the #AfD. Excellent reporting by Correctiv - in German, but worth a click on 'translate'
X is the megaphone of 21st century fascism and authoritariansim. It has poisoned public debate. It is a tool for bullying, abuse, and assault. X needs to disappear from our discourse. When people and institutions post there, it gives X credibility. It keeps it relevant. It's time to stop.

Visualized here. Hot tip for journalists: the real question isn’t why Wilders lost, but why the far right has consolidated — despite Wilders's ineffectiveness in government.
On the “defeat” of the far right in the Netherlands 🇳🇱
The total number of far-right seats in the Tweede Kamer:
2021: 28
2023: 41
2025: 42 👈
And I don’t even count BBB here, which has radicalized significantly in the last year.
Deze verkiezingen behoren tot de top 3 meest veranderlijke ("volatiele") verkiezingen in Nederland. Zo'n 44 Kamerzetels verschieten van partijkleur /1
🗳️ First exit polls from the Netherlands: Wilders’ PVV appears to shrink from 37 to 25 seats. Make no mistake — the far right remains strong. Support hasn’t disappeared; it’s shifted across parties. The Dutch political landscape is more fragmented than ever — and the far right is no exception. 🇳🇱
Abstract
New paper out with @dasalgon.bsky.social: “Far-Right Agenda Setting: How the Far Right influences the Political Mainstream” doi.org/10.1017/S1475676525100066 #openaccess in @ejprjournal.bsky.social🧵
Anti-immigration demonstration in the Netherlands escalates. This is exactly what happens when far-right ideas are tolerated and normalised over an extended period of time. The far right gains confidence and grows, both at the ballot box and in the streets.

The far-right majority in the Dutch parliament (BBB-FvD-JA21-PVV-SGP-VVD) has just designated “Antifa” a terrorist organization.
This is a dark day for Dutch democracy and the final nail in the coffin of the VVD as a serious liberal democratic party.

I know y'all just want to watch the #ESC in peace, but 📢 :The Spring 2025 update to the Eclectic, Erratic Bibliography on the Extreme Right is out! 180 new titles added, making it the second-largest update ever. Radical right research is growing fast. Like the #RadicalRight ☹️ #PoliticalScience
The results indicate that illiberalism has been present in far-right discourse since 1999, but large fluctuations existed until the late 2000s. After 2009, a stable trend evolved, with a marked increase since 2017 and the three dimensions trending together.
The article is openly available.
Empirically, we perform a quantitative content analysis on parliamentary speeches by far-right parties and develop an illiberalism dictionary for the context of the European Parliament. Based on this dictionary, we identify illiberal speeches and report annual percentual shares.
We build on conceptualizations of illiberalism as a set of ideas with a political, a socio-cultural and an economic dimension and argue that illiberalism is a useful perspective to understand how nativism, authoritarianism and populism are integrated into an overarching illiberal agenda.
Very excited to share this publication in Politics & Governance together with @sldelange.bsky.social @nathaliebrack.bsky.social @mrooduijn.bsky.social
We study the embrace of illiberalism in far-right discourse in the European Parliament between 1999 and 2019
