This is a long shot, but does anyone have access to "Influence of stratification on vertical turbulent mixing in the sea" by Mamayev, 1958 and/or "On a relation between heat flux and temperature gradient in the sea" by Felsenbaum and Boguslavsky, 1977?

While I'm US-based these days I've been keeping an eye out thinking ahead about sabbaticals. I know I saw something at Ocean Networks Canada about a researcher-in-residence program that might be worth looking at? (Just from my own "hmm this sounds cool" list though, no firsthand experience with it.)

I deeply share this skepticism! But even if I completely ignored that and took him at face value, I don't think the argument as quoted makes much sense at all.

I'm also not clear on how any of this does anything about the large lecture hall scenario – the paragraph just before talks about things like quizzes and asynch discussions being most impacted, which are ways to engage that *aren't* sitting in a big class listening to the instructor!

I definitely had this with my large undergrad class last semester – especially in terms of office hour attendance and questions on the discussion board, and anecdotally I'm hearing this from a lot of others. I don't think it's just you!
