‘A paradigm change’: black hole spotted that may have been created moments after big bang — Guardian US Sighting by James Webb space telescope of black hole with sparse halo of material could upend theories of the universe

@hannahdevlin.bsky.social Brilliant article. One observation: We exist in a physics “light cone“ & are sequestered from other light-based information in the universe. Have you ever interviewed anyone as to how this detracts from our present understanding of the universe?

Does the UK have a mental health overdiagnosis problem? Mental ill health has been cited as a factor in the welfare overhaul, and experts agree it has worsened since the pandemic

Good @hannahdevlin.bsky.social piece teasing apart different issues & perspectives below the surface of simplistic headline claims of mental health 'overdiagnosis'

Very few people with a serious stake in this debate suggesting benefit cuts will help anything www.theguardian.com/society/2025...

Thanks! It was the second bit that I wondered about - as in is dead virus through pasteurisation very different from inactivated virus in a vaccine? I assume probably yes (and that in this case you're drinking it), but was curious.

Question for virologists/immunologists: would drinking milk containing avian flu virus (as in the US public right now) inoculate you? Is anyone investigating this or is it obvious that it wouldn't have any effect?

The appointment of Robert F Kennedy has horrified public health experts. Here are his three most dangerous ideas | Devi Sridhar He says his goal is to “Make America healthy again”. But behind the laudable slogan there’s a morass of conspiracy theories, says Devi Sridhar of Edinburgh University

Characteristically evidence-based piece from @profdevisridhar.bsky.social on the most egregious of RFK Jr's views.

A dangerous anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorist who promotes raw milk (E.coli or salmonella, anyone?) & has claimed "autism comes from vaccines" 😳
