graphic that says in bold lettering "remember: no lilies for kitties. even ingesting a tiny amount of pollen can cause fatal kidney failure. don't risk it." the background is a wallpaper of lily drawings and there is a photo of a perfect, fluffy white cat in the bottom right corner.

Lots of tech dudes think the "idea" is the important part of creating, not the creative journey you take through work to give that idea actual meaning. Ideas are the easiest, cheapest and least fulfilling part of it. Giving ideas life through work, and sharing that work with others, is the stuff.

They probably realized that they could make a lot of money from selling the chocolate. That, or they had a truly epic case of the munchies. ;)

Jane Siberry, The Indigo Girls, Asani, Coco Love Alcorn, Enya, Dido, Riot Women (okay, that one’s fictional, but the songs written for that show are kind of epic)

When you claim to be protecting women but you don't actually talk with and listen to women about what would make them feel safe
When your protection involves defining and policing womanhood
When your protection involves using violence and coercion
When you yourself are a threat

Dear plus size clothing manufacturers: not every large woman is apple-shaped, and my workplaces require me to wear garments with sleeves. If I wanted a shirt that was just a couple of fabric squares sewn together, I’d buy the fabric and sew it myself.

It occurs to me that she’s inadvertently made a case for a government solely comprised of Indigenous people.

I sometimes have similar thoughts about neurodivergence. Technically I’m undiagnosed, but, well, you’ve spent enough time around me that you‘ve probably noticed at least a few of my quirks. It’s taken a long time to figure out what’s really *me* and what’s the result of trying to mask for so long.

OH BLOODY FUCKING HELL
IT TAKES A SPECIAL KIND OF EVIL TO MAKE KIDS HATE THEMSELVES TO DEATH AND THEN LIE ABOUT YOUR RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT
*ahem*
Protect trans people. Especially the kids, but protect trans people. And don’t let bastards like that get away with what the NHS did.

It wasn’t horrible, exactly, but I’m glad to not have to rely so much on my space heaters and hairdryer to keep warm. And I’ve added another repair/maintenance skill to my repertoire, so that’s good. I’m just glad that the furnace is working again and the cats made it through this all right.

MY FURNACE LIVES!!! 😁
(Context: I ordered oil, but what I had ran out, so I had to bleed air out of the furnace fuel line after the delivery. Unfortunately, the bleed valve was stuck. It’s taken several days—during a cold snap, at that—to get it open. But I did; now I have heat in the house again.)

Two identical cards with four dogs singing “Hark!” and captioned, “Hark! The Canine Angels Sing.”
The moment when you realize that you and your best friend got each other the same card for Christmas… 😆
(Bruce, if I had to share a brain with someone, I’m glad I ended up sharing one with you.)

Mum’s birthday today—the fourth without her. It’s still hard, but at least it’s familiar enough that I’m coping better than I did a year or two ago. Still, there are some days when I miss her more than others, and this is one of them.

Today, out of sheer curiosity, I looked up the number of accounts registered with the Archive of Our Own. Apparently there are nearly 9.5 million. Not all are authors, but when I look at that number it kind of astonishes me that of those 9 million, my account is one of the first 1500.

(I accidentally posted without adding alt text for the photo. Oops! In any case, for those who need it: it’s a picture of a sandy beach on a surprisingly warm and sunny mid-October day.)

I bought a telescope a few days ago. I’ve always been interested in astronomy, but until recently I haven’t done much about that interest but read. Today I went out to the beach to align the telescope’s finder scope; it took a while, but the weather is nice today. I’m sorely tempted to go swimming.

Jane Goodall? Damn. I knew it would happen someday, of course—after all, she *was* in her nineties—but it’s not exactly the best news I’ve heard today.
May her name be remembered as long as there are people to remember it.

One of the less pleasant aspects of womanhood, unfortunately. I’m sorry you had to deal with that.
