The tents are great! Super easy to put together, and not that expensive. I'm extremely happy with mine.

Yup! I mostly do it because there's a basement window behind there and I want to reduce the draft. But it does help with light

And the state of things outside. I can replace the shade cover with a frost cloth if I need to, so I do have contingencies. last frost date was April 18 last year.

Last weekend of April is usually when I call it. 🌱

I've been so burnt at work that I took four days off to get these done. I needed a solid six days (longer, but that's what I had) to just ignore the whole world. Ever since that last layoff, I've been extremely wrung out. Whenever I get to remember that I'm a writer, and I like writing, it's a treat

I turned in edits for THESE SAVAGE STARS. I'm assured this books is still coming out.... Some time next year. I've seen a cover! It will happen, I'm sure 🤠

In the meantime, there's nothing like a good structural edit and tightening to get me back in the headspace I needed for the new book

I took this a few days ago. This is the peak. Have already started direct sowing things outside for the season. 🌱

When sports betting was legalized in Arizona, it was ludicrous how much direct marketing my husband received in the mail. Every few days for a couple months, a card w/ incentives arrived. He had zero interest, thank goodness.

I was never sent a single ad.

If you ain’t auto-buying @premeemohamed.com you are missing one of the most compelling, relevant, and innovative voices in modern fiction.

@kateelliottsff.bsky.social has been on my auto-buy list for actual decades. A master of her craft who just keeps getting better. I’ve read her whole canon.

Also turning off all inputs until Weds to give my brain to the book edits.

My brain, and the book, deserve it 😆

100%. I've always been a passionate believer in the necessity of a non-toxic men's movement. Until men go thru a similar consciousness raising period like women did, we're really stuck. What we got instead was a bro movement doubling down on the very worst of toxic masculinity

Alas, because of misogyny, female-coded products often must be rebranded "for men" Liquid Death is incredible example: it's just sparkling water with masculine-coded names and branding. It's opened vast new market. See also: rebranding of body wash. As long as there's misogyny, there'll be "for men"

That's def NOT what these audiences want tho lol!

Which is fine! I went through a period where I read 50+ domestic thrillers during pandemic years (modern gothics! Big mood!) and eventually lost track of which I'd read and which I hadn't because the plots were all so similar 😆

I think all of us are just way more exposed to certain types of bros these days than we used to be.

As I recall the book parodied a certain type of Wall Street bro direct from the "greed is good" era of the 80s; the restaurant obsession then was also super real (I remember a line in When Harry Met Sally about this as well). It HAD to have read as a satire? But maybe only to those exposed to them

I also rewatched it a couple years back and was amazed at how well it held up.

Right??? I LOVED this movie. Like the book, there were a LOT of people who didn't realize this was a satire. Very much had similar issue to Fight Club, in that a lot of folks were reading it straight.

Antarctic whales’ remarkable comeback is threatened by krill fishing Huge industrial trawlers are competing for krill – the main food source for whales – in the Southern Ocean, removing vital nutrients from the ecosystem

Antarctic humpback whales have recovered to nearly pre-whaling levels. Humpbacks have been the fastest to rebound since commercial whaling was banned in 1986, with multiple groups of more than 100 whales recorded near the South Orkney Islands. The Guardian buff.ly/eSXtvdN

This weather report is good enough that I'm moving more plants out to greenhouse later today at lunch and hardening off those that were in greenhouse. Plenty of frost chances on the horizon, but the Deep Freeze under 25s are likely over for now (knock on wood! 🌱).
