Interesting. To be fair, I would say that the word became overloaded. I maintain at least two separate concepts of “algorithm”.

When I code, I think of it as a technical person. When I post, “The Algorithm” is the god in the machine which rewards or punishes posts as part of an imposed order.

Bill T once gave me a piece of advice as to what worked for him that I never heard from anyone else: push your work on a frustrating project to a stable point where it can sit on a back burner and let your subconscious work on it after that. According to him, his subconscious made the breakthroughs.
