New stars forming in the Cat's Eye Nebula, as captured by the James Webb telescope. Three distinct ovals of negative space have formed in the midst of orange-brown gas clouds as those new stars draw the gas into themselves. Blue light from the stars contrasts with the dark orange gases. Pretty damn magical.

If all the Artemis space photography has got you hyped, I recommend browsing NASA for some of the recent James Webb photos or older Hubble pics. I recently bought a print of this pic of the Cat's Eye Nebula so I can stare at its beauty when I'm overwhelmed and need to put things in perspective.

What I like best about the Artemis II photos is that it was taken by actual humans. An actual person had to frame it and manually adjust settings. It's their own artistic rendition of what they thought looked best at the time, something no probe, rover or unmanned spacecraft can take. it's art

I know, it's such a sweet touch to end with him meeting them 🥹 It reminds me of the end of Uprooted bc both feature very prickly, uptight men going through the wringer (i.e. a social interaction) to prove their worth as a partner.

Man, I have to go back and re-read the duology, I forgot all those details! I've never written Kaz/Inej or read much of their fic, but their scenes are what inspired me to start writing B&B. There's a lot to explore!

Yes it's both, and that's VERY Kaz! I think the act of buying it/choosing it for her makes him feel more in control of the situation, but if he loved her less he would have given her a loan and not the whole damn ship with her parents aboard. It's like his gestures have to be gifts to be binding.

It's been a while since I read it, but I remember Inej's scene where she climbs a chimney(?) is pretty much a distillation of her character arc, where she's alone + forced to use her own strength to come out on top. She's wearing the shoes Kaz made for her (tellingly), but it's still her win.

Honestly all this is why it makes sense that Inej strikes out on her own AWAY from Kaz/Ketterdam as soon as she has her freedom. I think she'll use that distance to build herself up and to meet Kaz on more equal footing upon her return (not to mention he'll be even more of a simp bc of the absence).
