Finding our good work in the marble redefining work and giving voice to our intuition

reflections on finding our good work in the marble

the problem isn't that we don't know what we want to spend our time doing, it's that we don't *value* those activities if they don't clearly derive economic value

I often hear friends lament they struggle with identifying what type of work they’d want to do if they had the freedom to do whatever they pleased

they then proceed to share a list of meaningful activities they wish they had more time to do

I have immense gratitude for those who have seen me and allowed me to see myself more clearly, giving me the courage to write and share what's on my heart. I'm deeply grateful 🙏🏼

If this essay resonates with you, I'd be honored if you joined me in breathing life into these visions 🪄

One year into writing More Myself and six months into my sabbatical, I feel more grounded and rooted in myself than ever — in large part due to being seen by others.

Turning inward — taking our triggers, shadows, insecurities, and relationship dynamics into our own hands — and resolving our inner conflict day in and day out is the first step in walking the path towards collective flourishing.

Building this world starts from within. I do “the work” so that I can find my way back to myself. I share it to create reference points for others so that doing the work can become an ordinary course of life.

As a part of this vision, I'm excited to introduce a new series to the newsletter, A Call to Eudaimonia, and write my first book — more on both in the essay.

It’s time to redefine modern day human flourishing, one essay and one project at a time.

Starting in 2024, the newsletter will house all my work charting paths towards modern day human flourishing AND more intimate behind the scenes context on how I approach my inner work journey. My intention is to support others as they navigate their own course towards flourishing.

As I enter this next season, I have grand ambitions of where we’ll go together. One of those dreams is to expand the newsletter to imagine a more beautiful and psychologically resilient world and begin to pave our way there.

A lifetime of should-ing the case for an existential crisis

we can spend a lifetime allowing invisible shoulds to drive our decisions, mistaking ambivalence for a fragile intuition and existential dread as a crisis

bringing awareness to the ways we should ourselves allows us to make decisions from a place of self-trust

my favorite weekly ritual is the Sunday wind down to wind up

2 years ago 2 0 0 0

the first moments, minutes, hours, days of getting started are the hardest. you're up against the most inertia with no reference points to prove it's a worthy pursuit

but the longer you work at it, the more data points you collect, the more confidence you build, the clearer the path becomes

I've never considered myself an artist in any shape or form

a result of holding my identities more loosely as of recent is that I got a random ping on Sunday that I want to express my parts (IFS) through cartoons. so now, I'm learning to draw cartoons

turns out, it's really fun

when you're met with a difficult decision, rather than intellectualize your options, try each scenario on

imagine your world as if you've chosen the path you're leaning towards. how does that decision feel in your body?

our bodies know. tune into that subtle inner wisdom

identity as a way of being, repeatedly

2 years ago 0 0 1 0

this week's essay explores the fluidity of our identities:

- adopting alter egos & building a wardrobe of identities

- de-risking great ambitions through role play & experimentation

- riding the learning curve & drawing inspiration from others

- prep tomorrow's calendar today
- set out tomorrow's workout clothes tonight
- map out the upcoming week's priorities on Sunday

"take the thought out of it"

rather than rely on tomorrow me to have the motivation to figure it out, today me is almost always in a better position to set tomorrow me up to move straight towards action vs deliberation

learning to dance at the intersection of duality gives us the capacity to feel more deeply, relate more authentically, and express more wholeheartedly

we're raised to believe there's a good and a bad, learning to think in black and white

the reality is that there's beauty found in holding contradicting polarities

2 years ago 0 0 1 0

many of life's most meaningful experiences are a blend of dualities:

- moving to a new home: endings making way for new beginnings

- building a business: faith in the face of uncertainty

- running a marathon: endurance in defiance of pain

the most meaningful healing can start in solitude and end in community

2 years ago 0 0 0 0

the path towards healing is opening ourselves up to trusted others, allowing them to remind us of our shared humanity

when we give ourselves permission to share the rawness of our human experience, we give others the permission to soften to the quiet traumas they grapple with

when we don't allow trusted others in on our pain, we make space for shame and isolation to take root

we are not evolved to carry all of our life's heavy burdens on our own
