As brilliant as it is depressing, this is an essential read for anyone interested in Welsh politics and the future of Wales.

My final pre-election essay for Undod.
A cheery reminder that, whatever the result, people shouldn’t get too ahead of themselves, because the worst is yet to come.

What on earth can an ancient fable tell us about the Senedd Election?

The @1912exiles.com has set up a fundraising page to support Ollie's family at this difficult time, honoring a young life full of joy, loyalty, and too-short a time with us.

An important listen for anyone interested in the future of professional sport in Newport, and what it means for the local economy and culture in general
The only way to save Welsh rugby as a cultural force is to go back in time to the start, tweak the rules so it's incompatible with the rest of the sport, and it becomes (South) Wales' answer to GAA. It was always going to fade out
Old but still relevant:

'Some of it may be useful, most of it is banal, but the algorithm can never satisfactorily differentiate, leaving all users to wade through the resultant mire in the hope of finding something valuable.'
Very good from @garethleaman.bsky.social

The party needs to be the people. In a truly democratic political party, in which the leadership and membership are as one, the intent of bad-faith external saboteurs becomes irrelevant. The media will be at odds with your demands at every turn no matter what – you don’t combat that by out-debating them, you combat it by becoming the reality they can’t dispel. The problem is, this takes a very long time to build: there are no shortcuts, and you can’t fake it. I’m just going to rip from an earlier article that touched on this, rather than rehash it: ‘The challenge, however, is that the left and right are working at different temporalities. The ingredients for a leftist fightback – community resilience, workplace organisation, etc – take a long time to develop. This can’t be astroturfed, imposed top-down from without – such a project can only occur organically from below if it’s to have lasting success. The right, on the other hand, already has everything it needs for success: money, power, influence, a political culture well-suited for the contagion of their ideas, etc.’
The best piece I've read regarding the machinations around the setting up of a new left party. I think @garethleaman.bsky.social hits on all the important points.
