Considerable predictive power.
I’ve started up on Substack, to discuss matters pertinent to the Senedd election in May & stopping the far right.

Please read this, understand what the govt is doing & take action. Labour's immigration proposals swap integration for segregation, introduce a Dubai-style Kafala system of coercive employer control & drive low-income families into poverty. They're an abomination.

Earned settlement: retrospective change is wrong but prospective change is even worse Changing the rules for migrants already here is wrong and unfair but only affects a finite group of people. Extending default settlement to 10 years or more for everyone is a social policy disaster.
A rare Substack piece from me on the biggest problem with the earned settlement proposals. It's not the unfair treatment of those already here, as bad as that is. It's the forward-looking, permanent change for all future migrants. open.substack.com/pub/wewanted...
Perhaps he's aiming to become Tory party leader.
Thank you, please keep fighting!
We can all start with the idiot pheasants, that should keep us going for a good while.
Hannah Spencer walking into Westminster, sucking her teeth, tutting, and muttering "tell you what, you've had some cowboys in here."
Another blow for the ascientific disaster that is the Cass Review: "It is profoundly misguided to cast health care based on low-certainty evidence as bad care or as care driven by ideology, and low-certainty evidence as bad science."

Brad Mehldau. At least I hope he's more famous than Frank Luntz.
It's quite extraordinary that they thought any of these people would do a better job than Karen Pierce, who did not need to be replaced! It wasn't like there was a vacancy that had to be filled.

How much temperate rainforest could there be in the UK and Ireland, and where? Despite campaigns calling for restoration in both countries, these questions have been difficult to answer. In our new paper we assess the evidence base 🌏🧪🌐🌳🌲 1/9

UK people please respond to the government request for comment on the Home Office's "Earned Settlement" plans, deadline 12 February. migrantsrights.org.uk/2026/01/29/e...
Bekina wellies are the best I've found. Reasonably comfortable and reliably last for years.
I enjoy telling current PhD students it took me 11 years to do mine. It's like a kindness I can now bestow on others.
Never mind the jobs you had, tell me five classes you took at university.

Just been doing another Afghan asylum appeal. Win or lose, client isn’t being removed unless the UK recognises the Taliban as the official government of Afghanistan. Even then, removals might not take place. What is the point of this? What is the Home Office’s 3D chess masterplan?
Yes this. All the farmers I know have European model pickup trucks. The people who are importing giant American pickups are probably not farmers.
European and American pickup trucks are different sizes and designs. See carinterior.alibaba.com/buyingguides.... There is no American Hilux, instead it's the Tacoma. The number of Hilux and Navarra in the UK doesn't tell you anything about the number of giant US style pickups here.
The article is about US style pickup trucks which are overgrown monstrosities with shrunken truck beds. I'm a farmer, I have a normal Toyota Hilux, a lot of my neighbours have normal Nissan Navarras. I wouldn't have one of those US monsters.

Labour are dancing to the tune of Reform's cruel agenda on asylum.
These proposals, including confiscating personal belongings, will punish people who have already endured unimaginable hardship and will create further divisions in our communities.
Plaid Cymru rejects such performative cruelty.
Imagine how far the £2.5billion announced for nuclear today could go if it was invested in energy communities.

Such an imaginative lead for heritage in Scotland. I saw similar graphic novel artists used to illustrate the Ad Gefrin Anglo Saxon museum in Northumberland in May. A hugely effective new way to communicate archaeology 👏👏

One of the government's plans for the NHS is "left shift", taking services from hospitals and placing them in the community. Closer to the residents, more responsive to their needs, cheaper, and faster services.
What's not to like?
This is not as easy as some think. A short thread:
