This magnificent adult male Goshawk caused a bit of a commotion whilst we were targeting ducks. We think he is the male of a nest that we monitor 2km away.

Lapwings are in serious trouble in Wiltshire with probably the same number of pairs as Stone Curlew. We found a lovely flock and managed to ring 5 of them. It is likely that these are not our breeding birds... But who knows? We need more research to find out.

Nice little bonus when targeting Snipe. Kingfishers brighten up anyone's day!

During the last four nocturnal surveys of farmland in Wiltshire we have ringed an amazing total of 39 Grey Partridges. Thermal imaging has revolutionised our monitoring of this wonderful bird both in terms of observation counts and also numbers seen. #ukbirds

Last night we were monitoring farmland birds with a thermal camera. We ringed a very impressive 11 Grey Partridges. This chap was the star of the show because we originally ringed him two winters ago.

In our last house we couldn't feed birds due to our neighbours 3 cats. We moved out of town in August and our feeders are covered in birds. I know they are common but I got huge joy seeing this Blackcap today. It's only a quick phone photo through a window but who cares, its a Blackcap in my garden🥳

We monitored a Tree Sparrow site today. There were about 35 Tree Sparrows present. We retrapped 12 that we originally ringed as nestlings in our nest boxes across the Downs. The longest four movements were 11km which is quite a long local movement.

Male Corn Bunting ringed two days ago. In Wiltshire we are very lucky to have wonderful farmland and so Corn Buntings are still fairly common. This one was in a flock of 150.
