I introduced the bipartisan Duty Status Reform Act to make the system easier and get our servicemembers compensated quickly and efficiently and I’m proud to have the full backing of the Military Departments’ personnel chiefs in this crucial change.
As the Former Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, I know firsthand how the overly complicated and confusing duty status system denies our servicemembers the fair compensation and benefits they’ve earned.
Congratulations to our hardworking, dedicated students for receiving this distinguished recognition, and to the educators, administrators, staff and families who motivate and support their commitment to achieving academic excellence.
This week, I celebrated the nine schools across San Gabriel Valley selected as 2026 California Distinguished Schools.
I am proud to support a school so firmly committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment for its students.
As a champion for higher education, I look for ways we can reduce barriers for students to pursue their career goals.
I met with @calpolypomona.bsky.social this week and we had a great conversation about the university’s strong presence in our community.

Congressional Republicans are refusing to bring us back to vote on a War Powers Resolution, shirking their oversight duties, and abdicating all Congressional power to fuel the President’s genocidal ambitions.

Now is the time for Congressional Republicans, the Cabinet, and Senior Military leaders to join Democrats and speak up before our nation commits a heinous act.
These deranged and deadly ramblings are not consistent with the behavior of a Commander in Chief. We cannot have someone that acts so unstable at the helm of the world’s largest military.
Threateaning to decimate an entire country isn’t a war tactic, it’s a war crime and a call for genocide. No one—no matter their affiliation—should support vile attacks on civillians.
While I am glad the Colonel is going to be back home with his family, this didn’t have to happen, and we lost nearly $300 million in equipment—no matter how old it is.
But Trump’s war with Iran is so unpopular that he is using this rescue operation as a way to gain support for his illegitimate war.
Trump could have simply said “thank you to all the personnel who were involved in rescuing the downed Air Force Colonel. We are happy to have them back.”
Happy Easter! Wishing everyone celebrating a joyful day filled with hope and time spent with family.
Praying for the F-15 crew shot down over Iran. Hoping they make it out safe.
This bill would fund all of Homeland Security with the exception of ICE and CBP, which is what Democrats have been advocating for.
Instead, they chose to pass a bill that never had a chance of passing. They could’ve ended the shutdown last week by doing this earlier. Unbelievable!
The dysfunction of House Republicans is beyond belief. Their leader Speaker Johnson has now agreed to the homeland security funding bill, that the Senate passed before the recess.
The President’s address to the nation last night was about as clear as mud. That is why the price of oil went up again today. www.nbcnews.com/business/mar...
May the next eight days remind us of the importance of fighting tyranny everywhere and may all those celebrating have a joyous Passover. Chag Pesach Same'ach!
