A few years back, I couldn't figure out where the comma in "God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen" was supposed to go, so I hit myself in the face (and also did some singing).

RamsesThePigeon Authoring abject absurdity and appreciating alluring antiques.

If you'd like to watch a higher-resolution of the above video (or see similar videos about antiques, history, and precious metals), there's more on YouTube:

There's yet another cliché, I suppose.

You've likely seen people saying that you should invest in silver and gold... but there's more than metal-value in objects made from the stuff.

Also, Mister T was a 1980s-era paragon of 1580s-era style. No, really.

UPDATE: In response to this video, the British Antique-Dealers' Association has updated their website! It may be fun to call out mistakes, but it's even more important to applaud corrections. (Now if only we could get them to change their name from "BADA" to "BADAss"!)

Look, if we're being honest, size may matter a bit… but how you use it is still more important! Also, two is better than one!

We’re talking about "little candlesticks" here, people.

Those quotation marks don't make it any better, do they?

“Made In Switzerland” is the clear winner of #Eurovision this year.

That is all.

Y’know, I don’t have one of those… but I’m really touched that you’d like to help support me, so I’ll see about setting one up in the near future!

Thank you so much for the suggestion (and for watching)!

Also, the comma was correct (provided that a second “who” was implicit there)!

Let's see if we can figure this out together!

I've replied to your email, but we can post our results here once we're finished!

You wouldn't think that the antique equivalent of an appliance's underused attachment would be a good investment, but some of them can actually double or triple the value of an object!

Two similar images depict a brooch which resembles a splatter of paint. At the center of the brooch is a dully green, circular stone. The image on the left shows the brooch as it appears in daylight. The image on the right reveals (by way of ultraviolet light) that the stone is actually uranium glass which fluoresces in a bright, vivid green.

A botched pour of silver and a broken piece of uranium glass added up to a new brooch.

The Silver-Butcher of the Vale
The Silver-Butcher of the Vale YouTube video by RamsesThePigeon

It has been a while, but I'm back with a long-form video. The story might sound like something from a badly written roleplaying game (or maybe a crime "documentary"), but it's the true story of how I became The Silver-Butcher of the Vale.

You can set up your setup, at which point you’ll have set up a set-up setup.

The same thing goes for any term composed of an action followed by a direction!

A box for an electric razor stands on a white shelf. A security tag covers much of the design, but text reading “Look Barber Fresh Everyday” (with that exact spelling and lack of hyphen) is still visible.

I’m in the market for a new razor, and I was going to purchase a Braun. When I arrived at the store, though, this was my first impression.

The text should read “Look barber-fresh every day”.

If a company can’t be bothered to proofread their packaging, how can I trust their products?

@ramsesthepigeon.bsky.social My friend and I were on a call, and they found this purple like coin. Do you know what and where they’re from? (These are the same coin btw)

This is a bit outside my area of expertise, but it looks like a Mardi Gras doubloon. Folks throw them from floats (which are usually similar in theme to the designs on the doubloons, I believe).

If it turns out that I’m wrong, let me know! It would be neat to know for sure!

A ragdoll cat lounges on a windowsill, draping one paw off the edge as she rests her head near a potted plant. Her facial expression appears to convey fatigue, resignation, and mild disapproval, and her general demeanor is similar to that of someone who is contemplating the mountain of monotonous work ahead of them.

Are we still doing "giving"?

If so, my wife's cat is definitely "giving Wednesday".

De Beers may have said "A diamond is forever", but the joke is on them: Sapphires, emeralds, and rubies are timeless (and more fascinating than their status as "expensive rocks" might suggests)!

Wordsmithing 101: Lovely Little Lines
Wordsmithing 101: Lovely Little Lines YouTube video by RamsesThePigeon

Should "real life" be hyphenated? What does an en dash do, anyway? Is an em dash something else entirely? Why are we asking so many obviously leading questions?

This edition of "Wordsmithing 101" addresses some lovely little lines!

Marcus Stone's "Bright Summer" – painted in 1892 and reproduced as this illustration for "The Graphic" in 1895 – depicts a Victorian woman playing with her cat.

In my opinion, the cat's demeanor can be best expressed with a lowercase eroteme.
