They're all nazi bars at this point. Twitter, Bluesky, Instagram, Facebook, even some instances of Mastodon. Nazis get to do whatever they want and any resistance or even impudence against them is punished, frequently.

And this is the so-called "leftist echo chamber!" incredible.

It's totally fine for the right to establish complex networks of chudlords to harass and threaten left-leaning writers and marginalized content creators and anyone they please with impunity for months and years, but if you say "rest in piss" about a nazi, you get the boot. Bluesky is a nazi bar.

The goofiest bit about the "rest in piss" debacle that is quickly starting to form is that Bluesky has Mike "Streisand Effect" Masnick on its board. guess that means jack and shit huh

OK, But You Do Know You’re Eulogizing Charlie Kirk, Right? - Aftermath Conspicuously, eulogies of Charlie Kirk from mainstream media neglect to quote Charlie Kirk. So here's Charlie Kirk in his own words.

"In a sane nation, our most visible figures and venerable institutions wouldn’t be attempting to canonize a man who made his name spewing hate and laundering fascist talking points."

This follows after Gretchen Felker-Martin and Nathan Grayson were suspended for similar sentiments. Really wild times lmao

@noescapevg.com was suspended for 24 hours for saying "Rest In Piss" with regards to dead right-authoritarian commentator and tiny-faced shithead Charlie Kirk, so that's a lot of fun.

Leftists are always going to be critical of these kinds of mass-appeal "bring the kids" style protests, but usually because of strategy, or lack of radical potential, etc. I'm sure a leftist who doesn't want them to happen at all exists, but most folks aren't going to be like that from jump.

1 year ago 10 2 0 0

The stated goal of protest movements like 50501 and Hands Off is to... stop the government from getting worse, for instance by sending people to an El Salvadoran prison camp or deporting college students for exercising free speech. By definition, this is not accelerationist. Doesn't make it bad!

1 year ago 9 1 2 0

Accelerationism is a strategy centered around coaxing material conditions into a worse and worse state, whether that be capitalist exploitation, the fascist tendencies of a particular government, or even various social tensions, until a critical mass of immiserated people are pushed into radicalism.

1 year ago 10 1 2 0

I had to read this thread to make sure but this person is not talking about accelerationism at all; they're literally just talking about leftist irritation with bog standard protest movements, which is a tale as old as time. It's worrisome that they fucked up what accelerationism means so hard tho

putting faith in institutions that are at this moment doing everything they can to roll over for the regime is actively putting yourself and your neighbors in danger. the democrats will not save anyone but themselves. the only people you can rely on right now are yourselves and each other.

I've spent the last two weeks feeling helpless, and man, what a useless time that was.

Time to get back on the horse.

I’m not even being like “you have to see a major punk band” - literally just go to a show in your area.

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

Today marks a first: I am elitist and a gatekeeper because part of my criticism of that headass punk take includes speculating that the take-bearer has never actually been to a local punk show.

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

Sorry, “documented with sources and … unbiased” is not how I would describe a rant full of sweeping generalizations, wild misinterpretations of a 1970s-era cultural studies book, and fearmongering, but maybe we’re just built different from each other.

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

in conclusion:

I don't expect everyone to enjoy or even know much about punk but I do expect better from people with headass opinions about it

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

That is to say you're in just as much danger going to a punk show as with any other genre. And depending on who you are/your social subject position, that might be a nonzero amount of danger. but also nobody's being tricked into getting into punk in this fashion. it just doesn't fucking happen lmao

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

"When you do that, you're saying "hey, all this is safe." it is absolutely not safe. don't lead people into danger out of a desire to adopt a twee fashion aesthetic"

Punk is not exempt from negative social forces like sexism and racism but to pretend like it's uniquely dangerous is hilarious

"you do understand you're pointing at the fuckin skinheads and going "this is good", right? and that very much is not good."

I simply do not have the time, energy or patience to explain the SEPARATE SUBCULTURE OF SKINHEAD/OI but I WILL say that antifascist skinheads very much exist in large numbers

"...and they do it by trying to tell people that being punk is some sort of inherent good"

again who tf is doing this? nobody does this. punk *can be* a site for unlearning bigotries and prejudices, for getting an understanding of radical political positions, but nobody *stops* at "punk is good"

1 year ago 0 0 1 0

"but a bunch of people who understand good things want to oppose a lot of these institutional things (also good)"

I have no idea what the fuck dude's talking about here. what institutional things. what are you saying. just be fucking clear please.

"and nazis fucking love to be against the system."

I can't believe I'm saying this but this is a limited and myopic view of nazis, who are usually very much pro-"the system" when the system is going to give them what they want. such as in the case of the United States in just over a month.

1 year ago 2 0 1 0

"punk is, at its core, a reactionary aesthetic that is built on the visual ideal of selling you the fantasy of being 'against the system.'"

...anyway, punk - even street punk - has evolved culturally, musically and aesthetically in the half-century since its emergence. fucking obviously.

I admit I've never been much for the fashion side of punk but to be like "punk was never authentic! it was made up by Vivienne Westwood to sell clothes!" while ignoring the fashion trends of the LA, DC Detroit and NY punk scenes is just very fucking funny to me

1 year ago 3 0 2 0

"your entire idea of punk imagery is from a bunch of fashion designers trying to sell a brand. it's not authentic, because punk never was authentic"

hahahahah

"punk as a musical genre largely breaks into the open when westwood/mclaren/jordan start pushing it, and westwood like, straight up disavowed it later"

lmao

"and then there's the commercial side."

yeah okay

1 year ago 1 0 1 0

"people love to go "i'm punk so i'm a good person!" as if slapping a label on yourself will automatically apply all attributes of thing x or thing y to them like it's a video game affix, but that's not how it fucking works."

we already talked about this.

Even in conservative-ass Oklahoma City, nazis are welcomed with violent expulsion if they try to hang out at shows or venues. Like, I don't know what to tell you. Do nazis sometimes make their own shows and venues? yeah. antifa does its best to destroy them. but god lmao. "still really popular."
