The size of US vs Europe. A lot have to travel to cross country for work. It can be few hours by plane vs day or 2 to drive. Flight from Chicago to LA is 4h 40m, vs ~29h nonstop car. Amtrak direct to LA is ~43hrs. Europe is great to travel by train, I have many times there.
