We’re making progress toward the start of tunnel boring! The two tunnel boring machines that will build the first mile of the new train tunnel into NYC are being assembled at the staging area in New Jersey now. George has been a member of IUOE Local 825 for 25 years. Now he's leading a team working on the Palisades Tunnel Project. He and his crew are proud to show up and work hard to build one of the biggest infrastructure projects in the country.
Colin is part of a family of builders who helped make New York City what it is today. Now he’s making his mark as a member of the team building the Hudson Tunnel Project. It’s that sense of legacy and the pride that comes from building something lasting that drives the workforce behind this project.
For Ronald, working on the Manhattan Tunnel Project isn't just a job, it's a chance to do something important for everybody who travels into, out of, and through New York City. It's hard work – especially in the winter – but that sense of purpose, and his great coworkers, are why he loves the job.

The Hudson Tunnel Project is a massive, complex project. To get it done, GDC has split construction into 10 distinct projects. Many of these could be called megaprojects on their own!

Reliable passenger rail unlocks jobs and drives economic growth. Leaders of NAIOP's NJ and NYC chapters explain why building the Hudson Tunnel Project now is so important for riders, workers, and businesses in this op-ed for @njspotlightnews.org: www.njspotlightnews.org/2026/03/op-e...
We're pouring concrete for the third and final section of the Hudson Yards Concrete Casing! The tunnel floor is finished, and we're making progress on the walls. When it’s complete, the concrete casing will connect the new tunnel to New York Penn Station.
We’re almost finished installing the slurry wall for the Hudson County Access Shaft! Once that wall is complete, we’ll begin excavating the 120-foot-deep shaft.
Workers are back on the job in Manhattan and in the Hudson River! We’re continuing installation of the slurry wall for the 12th Avenue Access Shaft and stabilizing the riverbed to prepare for tunnel boring.
Construction is resuming at all our sites this week. At the tunnel portal in North Bergen, we’re continuing construction of the launch box where the tunnel boring machines will be assembled and start tunneling. The components of the first machine are on site, ready for assembly!
Construction of the Hudson Tunnel Project is resuming! Workers who have been impacted by the construction pause are returning to our construction sites this week.

Funding has been restored for the Gateway Program!
That's good news for our region. The sooner the Hudson Tunnel is built — and the fewer delays it faces — the sooner our region and nation can reap the benefits.

“I had to let all my guys go. There’s no checks coming in for them.”
Guido Rivieccio, one of the shop stewards working on the Manhattan Tunnel Project, describes the real-world impact that pausing funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project had on the workers on his team this week.
Hundreds of workers should be on site building the Hudson Tunnel Project this week. Instead, we had to put up these signs at our construction sites because we still cannot access the federal funding for the project. Funding must be restored now so we can get back to work!
Pausing construction of the Hudson Tunnel Project hurts hundreds of workers. More than 200 union workers rallied at GDC’s North Bergen construction site earlier this week to call for federal funding to be restored so they can get back to work.
When work pauses, paychecks stop. LIUNA General President Brent Booker explains to NJ Spotlight that withholding funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project means lost income, fewer dollars in local economies, and workers struggling to make ends meet.
The pause in federal funding for the Hudson Tunnel Project threatens the livelihoods of hundreds of workers. Local 472 member Lamont Richardson told NY1 what’s at stake for his union brothers and sisters.
