Here’s some artwork of a family I drew for a private commission recently.
Hopefully, this will cheer you up.
Here too. Praise be!
I look for ‘The Quick Good Friday’ every year.
I now have TWO Good Friday strips to post every year. I think Good Friday is my muse.
I was able to review @avpotts.bsky.social's WAS THAT NORMAL? (@averyhill.bsky.social) for @comicsjournal.bsky.social; Philip struggles to find connection, a problem made worse by his misguided perceptions of how everybody else's lives are so much better: www.tcj.com/reviews/was-...
Tommy Cooper sketch.
We went through multiple versions of art for the cover of last year’s version of THERE’S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT before we settled, last minute, on what was used.
MURDER SCHOOL is out this year!
Here’s a sketch of Henry Cole and one of the other guys from Shed And Buried. Merry Christmas.
A Christmas tale. The story of my first kiss. A clip from my next graphic novel, MURDER SCHOOL, published by Drawn & Quarterly 2026.
The French edition of WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME made what would have been The Official Selection List for the now cancelled Angoulême Conic Art Festival 2026. I am like the kiss of death. bleedingcool.com/comics/offic...
If you’re looking for ideas for Christmas presents, here are two graphic novels by me published this year you might consider.

RIP Rachel Cooke. Rachel interviewed me for The Observer when I won the Graphic Short Story Prize, reviewed both of my graphic novels for the paper and played an important role in the inflated view I now have of my comics and myself. observer.co.uk/news/nationa...
Truman Capote sketch. Pen and brush, no pencils, straight down.
I’ve updated my online shop! These are but four comics I made that you can buy directly from me via my website, including the optimum editions of THERE’S NO TIME LIKE THE PRESENT and WHY DIN’T YOU LOVE ME. pbrainey.bigcartel.com
The MK Lit Fest Indie Book Fair is happening this Saturday. It’s free to get in. I hope to see you there.
Scrappy sketch of Susan Sarandon as Bette Davis. Drawn straight down using pen, brush and ink, no pencil. Obviously, I’m quite pleased with how it’s turned out, which is why I’m sharing it.
I’m exhibiting at the Milton Keynes Indie Book Fair in the City Centre on Sat 25 Oct. Bring along copies of my comics to sign if you want. I’ll also be selling, signing and sketching copies of my graphic novels and comics too.
The original JOG ON strips that were the basis of a long-lasting mural I drew in The Centre MK. It ended up lasting for far longer than imagined thanks to the pandemic.
If I were to win, they’ll be shocked when this old geezer arrives to accept the award.
The French edition of WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME? has been nominated for the Festival of Colomiers ‘First Time Award’. Yum yum!
