European bee-eaters nest in colonies, digging long tunnels in sandy banks or cliffs where they lay their eggs. Despite its name, it doesn't eat only bees. It also feeds on wasps, dragonflies, and other flying insects. Before eating bees or wasps, it removes the sting by hitting the insect against a branch.
