@bgeo-trees.bsky.social GEO-TREES would like to express its sincere thanks to all Panama Workshop participants. The collaborative work achieved will be invaluable for integrating the datasets ( #ALS, #TLS, #TreeInventory ) toward robust forest carbon estimation.

A large tree with several branches growing out in different directions, all laden with thick moss. There are ferns in the foreground, and a variety of trees and plants around and behind the tree. The sky behind is blown out by the sun and is bright white.

An extreme close-up of a dense cluster of honey mushrooms with smooth, glistening caps in warm tones of peach, amber, and burnt orange, their lobed and wavy edges overlapping across the entire frame. Moisture beads on the surface of the caps, catching the light and emphasizing their wet, almost gelatinous texture. The tightly packed composition and shallow depth of field give the image an abstract, sculptural quality

The long-term carbon sink depends on the #microbiome aka primary production that all plants depend on. Pesticides reach protected reservers and destroy the microbiome. 2.5% less insect biomass in reserves per year tells it all.

1.7% of Norway's #forests are old growth. 98% are cancerous.

how trees rule the world I keep writing about trees, all the wonderful things they do for us, and why we stop forestation. I never joined the dots quite like Harriet Rix does in her amazing book > The genius of trees: > How trees mastered the elements and shaped the world > Bodley Head 2025 which shows that our whole environment is basically the product of trees controlling earth, water, air, and fire, the classical elements referenced in the title. So I should have written this book, but it was more relaxing just reading and enjoying it. My review of the book is now out in the March issue of Chemistry & Industry: **A world shaped by trees** Chemistry & Industry Volume 90, Issue 3, March 2026, Page 34 access via: Wiley Online Library (paywalled PDF of the whole review section) SCI (premium content, ie members only) As always, I can send a PDF on request. PS I believe the book is now available as a paperback too - saves some trees!

My review of the very lovely book The Genius of #Trees by Harriet Rix is out in this month's issue of C&I, just in time for the paperback release proseandpassion.blogspot.com/2026/03/how-trees-rule-w... #science #bookreview #ecology #forests

This is a scenic photo of some red and orange fall foliage reflected in Heart Lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York. The Heart Lake Trail is one of the best places in the Adirondacks to learn about nature in the mountains. It provides both beautiful views of a pristine mountain lake and access to varied habitats. Much of the trail follows the lake shore and passes through mixed forest, with some marshy areas close to the shore, where marsh-dwelling plants such as Labrador Tea and Sheep Laurel may be found. The lake is also a good place to look for Common Loons and Great Blue Herons.
