Here's what the 6 month enrollment moratorium for Durable Medical Equipment (DME) means for people who are reliant on having access to it. (Moratorium announced 25 Feb by Oz and Vance.)

Casey, a white woman wearing a patterned dress and sunglasses on her head, smiling beside Kenya, a multiracial woman wearing a black shirt, necklaces, and glasses, on a rooftop. The orange sunset is behind them.
Had the best time at the National Academy of Social Insurance happy hour last night. I love connecting with folks passionate about equitable disability policy, economic justice, and access to health care.
Got to enjoy the sunset with @kenyamariepm.bsky.social!
I'm working on a story for @thesicktimes.org about RECOVER clinical trial results that have been shared so far (from the VITAL, NEURO, and AUTONOMIC studies), and am looking for people in the #LongCOVID and IACC communities to share what they think of the findings. DM or email me!

I was fortunate to meet Dr. Kait Brennan yesterday, whose Washington Update series I find immensely helpful re: education policy, interagency agreements, and budget analysis.

I hope folks check this out, we all really deserve credible info on this score.

Using the r-word is just bad. Democrats should have higher standards for themselves than Trump when it comes to using a slur that MANY disabled people find offensive. Looking at you, Graham Platner. New from me at @motherjones.com. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
Thank you Paul & @incldisability.bsky.social 🩷
CW for the article: human and pet death
Paul shares, "These intertwined stories across decades are being shared in hopes of illuminating key commonalities and uniquenesses in the experience of disability across species, as well as the impacts of disability on shaping the behaviors of other members of a family, human and nonhuman."
Paul’s article weaves the concepts of disability, accommodations, caregiving for pets and people, communication, and sharing a home with pets so beautifully that it made me cry the first time I read it.
It’s authored by Dr. Paul Jaeger and titled, “Three Blind Cats and One Visually Impaired Human in the Family: Compassion, Communication, Caregiving, and Culture in a Household with Multiple Species Sharing the Same Disability” (doesn’t that make you want to dive in?).
On this beautiful DC day, today’s #scholarcrip is my favorite journal article I have ever read.
graphic that features black and white photos of a rabbit, a duck, a pig, a sheep, a cow, and a chicken. Text says "April 10th id national farm animals day".
Today is National Farm Animals Day! We hope that by getting to know and love our residents you might be inspired to think about the lives of animals who are not lucky enough to end up in sanctuary, and maybe consider ways you can reduce animal products in your diet/life. ❤️
Thanks @disabilitylab.bsky.social for amplifying these important stories! 🩷

#scholarcrip: Gwendolyn Hill on creativity & Long COVID:
"Being more intentional with my work and how I spend my Crip Time and energy is how I honor my Crip body. I had to learn that my creativity won’t die just because I need rest. In fact, it will flourish if I allow it time to grow.”

"'I think that we can trace this [movement] back to the very founding of the United States and the belief that you are only worth the amount that you are able to produce,' said Ives-Rublee."
Thanks Laura Weiss for interviewing me for her @prismreports.org article.

Slide depicts a person transplanting small plants into soil using a trowel and the words “Planting Outdoors” with the following bullet points: - wait for an overcast day or plant late afternoon after the hottest part of the day is over, - depending on what containers you used, you may or may not need to take them out, - when using biodegradable containers, you may need to slice lines in the bottom so the roots can get out (peat pot), - plant in the ground and then water in, - now wait for your vegetables to grow!
My disabilities have meant I’ve had to find new hobbies in my 20s. I’ve been fortunate to be able to garden on my DC patio.
My mom invited me to join her garden club to learn about seed starting. It was fun to learn more about growing veggies - my eggplant & peppers have already started sprouting!
This research underscores the importance of #scholarcrip. Let’s show early scholars that we’re here, we’re creating knowledge, and we're prepared to welcome them and mentor them!
In today’s #scholarcrip, Aspen Lillywhite & Gregor Wolbring interview disabled students to understand the reality of disabled undergrads as knowledge producers. Participants felt that disabled undergrads were insufficiently exposed to/supported in the identity of being knowledge producers.
Spent the morning talking eugenics and Project 2025 at the Yale Symposium on Disability and Accessibility.
It’s hard to talk about horrifying things and the horrifying history that created them, but I’m bolstered by people’s interest and action in tackling this work.
One line that particularly stood out to me: “Performing productivity has been isolating, but being honest about my needs has been the balm that restores my soul.” #scholarcrip
“My redefining capacity, reclaiming my right to softness, to pause, to rest came easy due to my exposure to community and thought leaders I admire. Imani Barbarin, Roxane Gay, Audre Lorde, and Bassey Ikpi, have all contributed to my understanding.”
