I love how y'all are assuming that when this is over there will be a country left to prosecute anyone. 😐

To those who still think voting for this man was the Christian thing to do..... Well, I just don't know what to say at this point. Whatever I say, you're sure not to like it.

I saw #TheArchers trending and my first thought was, "Why is everyone talking about an old 1970s Gospel music group?"

Χριστὸς ἀνέστη!

Or as an increasing number of people in our parish would say, ¡Cristo ha resucitado!

In many parishes (including mine), not only are they blessed by the priest, but we all eat our Pascha meal together at the church after the midnight service. It's basically an all-night party!

You make #Easter baskets, I make #Pascha baskets. We are not the same.

We should all switch to octal. It is inherently superior.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone put turkey in a Pascha basket, but bringing KFC or Popeyes is definitely a thing.

This is a gluten-free recipe, but for best result substitute glutinous ingredients unless you *need* gluten-free.

Little-known truth: Every #Pascha basket in the English-speaking world ought to have Scotch Eggs.

Symbolism often speaks to me more than hard facts. When Trump had the military clear protesters out of the way so he could go stage a photo op with a Bible, that told me all I needed to know about how bad things have gotten.

I think my daughter has a long-term plan (she's been guarded in sharing it with me) that does not include Canada.

But there is a distinction between the kind of thinking and rhetoric that made it possible to win Christians over, and the nationalist movement itself. As late as the 90s they were still separate things. Nationalism coopted the whole Christian political ecosystem and turned it to their ends.

Re Christians and nationalism, there's a complicated history of how I missed that. My upbringing didn't align with the Christians around us, and so until the Trump situation forced me to reexamine that, I was attributing to the Christian Right patterns of thought based on how I was raised.

Yes, moving states is also an option. But believe it or not, I'm not in a bad place. People look at Kansas and think "red state" (and from a progressive point of view the news here has not been good lately), but the reality of politics here is a lot more complicated.

I tried to do what I could, but it seemed like everyone I knew had lost their minds.

The bizarre, irrational hatred of Hillary Clinton is what finally tipped me off that the old 90s nationalist movement had taken over. I mean, lots of people really disliked her, but this was different.

The nationalist movement was very open and militant in the 90s, then they seemed to go into hiding after OKC. When they took over the GOP I was occupied with family and personal crises and didn't really get a handle on what had happened until I saw what Trump's campaign rallies looked like.

Remember, in the 90s these folks were blowing up federal office buildings. It was more precarious than people want to admit. And people also don't want to admit that those are the people in charge now.

The people now in charge, in the 90s I expected they would eventually start a civil war. I did not anticipate them winning conservative Christians over to their side and so actually winning elections.

Sad to say, I saw this coming in the 90s, though the specific way it has played out is not what I expected.

No, it really is impossible for me. Can't go into the specifics in public comments, but I am stuck. I think one of my daughters might eventually try to get out.

It's deeply depressing to me the way he points out that people from across the political spectrum have been sounding the alarm, then seems to land on hardcore progressivism being the only permissible alternative.

Not the main topic, but "you all" and "you guys" are not spontaneous at all. At least in America, they are plural pronouns unto themselves. "You guys" is technically less formal. In casual conversation, which one you use is mostly regional, but there are situations where you don't say "you guys."

The question isn't whether American civilization is coming to an end. That's pretty clear at this point.

The question is, will we collapse from within, or will we be invaded and occupied by a large contingent of foreign nations seeking to protect themselves?

The civilization that is ending is ours.

I can't help wondering if that's exactly what he means to say.
