(I'll wear the Mats shirt referenced above if anybody wants to say hi.)

The Robyn Hitchcock show at Turf Club Thursday . . .. OBVIOUSLY.
Looking at this now, I really appreciate how self- and situation-aware Tommy was about the band. And his answer here is *chefskiss* great.
You know where to find me now . . .
The Skyscrapers' guitar player was the first "replacement Replacement" that night, but he clearly did not know the 'Mats catalog.
Nice pull. Ironically enough, they reminded me of Tom Petty and the Heartbreaker. (dramatic foreshadowing?)
Welp, I think that's the end of Replacements storytime for now. Sometime down the road y'all can ask how it felt to be in the crowd at The Replacements first "final" gig in Chicago in 1991, widely bootlegged as "When The Fat Roadie Sings." Headline? It felt kinda sad, but also like maybe time's up.
Which featured an especially memorable version of "I Will Dare."
This was my 4th Replacements show. The next was at The Blind Pig, a pre-wedding gig from Paul married a woman from Ann Arbor. The Young Fresh Fellows opened the show and then Scott McCaughey announced "we're being Replaced!" Somewhere there *must* be a recording of this short set.
Very recently official Replacements merch site released a t-shirt based precisely on the poster art for that gig. While most of my band t-shirts are black, I made an exception for this one.
I had an embarrassing fight with an editor over whether a photographer would be sent to the show. You can thank me for the picture. And I remain sorry for my behavior that day, Beth.
Which Chilton and band were forced to smoke awkwardly in a dorm room with adoring fans of Big Star, a band whose music he then pretty much refused to play (including me). A band some of us found our way to by way of the 'mats even before "Pleased to Meet Me."
Chilton initially said he didn't even remember how to play "Back of a Car" when it was shouted. Tom shouted "I know it, will you sing?" and bounded onto the stage and thereby forced Alex Chilton to play a song he did not want play. He later Alex Chilton back to our dorm to help him find weed.
Yes, this. I do want to take a moment to acknowledge that Tom Morgan, who crushed it onstage that night had also months earlier played with Alex Chilton. Chilton was in his "Volare" era, and then he made the mistake of asking the crowd at The Blind Pig if they had any requests. They wanted Big Star.
I was told that Bob had been "Bobbing" around campus with a companion of the moment who helped him find the other things he was seeking.
With the benefit of hindsight I think of this specific night as the straw that broke the camel's back. But despite the anger and Bob being not at the top of his game, the show was a demonstration of the impact of Westerberg's development as a songwriter, and how it was reshaping the band.
Paul's rage at Bob was immense, and the heat felt palpable, with elbows thrown mid-song multiple times.
I will never forget the sight of a sweaty, overdue Bob Stinson barreling down the right aisle of The Michigan Theater to join the band after three or so "replacement Replacements" had filled in. The best of these was my dorm band bandleader Tom Morgan (R.I.P.) a brilliant guitar player.
I still remember my shock at realizing mid-interview with Tommy that I was clearly talking to someone younger than me.
I wouldn’t bother tracking down “the movie.” Better connected members of the Daily staff teased me for buying the cover story Tommy voiced from the stage after a too-long wait after the opening act.
Uhhh, John Logie here, writer of the above article for The Michigan Daily and first row observer of the events of that day. And coincidentally(?) former Michigander and current Minneapolis resident.
I mean we *could* even start with Dave Evans, but yes, I had Bon Scott in mind here.
The spirit of this seems to be that “lead singer leaves” means departs and does other musical things, yes? Be cause AC/DC would tick all the boxes if not. Still barreling (by a thread).
I feel SO seen and SO attacked, in particular by a mash-up of 2, 4, and 5.
Great cover!
The departures are on top of several attorneys who left last month amid disagreements over the DOJ's response to the shooting of Renee Good.
JUST IN: In a new lawsuit, Minnesota officials say DHS mishandled evidence from today's crime scene and made "astonishing" law enforcement decisions. storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Well, shit.

I once faced this scenario after one round of revisions, so I notified the journal editor that the reviewers' asks were mutually exclusive, and asked the editor to offer me direction as to which reviewer's advice I should follow. The editor then accepted the piece as revised. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
