In case you’re wondering if society is still moving towards progress, there’s someone on this city bus waxing poetic about the benefits of the shower beer.

I’ve been thinking about this—vi is actually older than I am, so I’m imagining Retro Kate as me at 10 years old typing on my family’s old Commodore. I’m not mad about that at all

...wow. It's been a few years since I got stuck in vi.

I think it's good to feel that shook every once in awhile?

Things I did not expect from work at age 42: I'm in a Zoom meeting and am feeling emotionally stifled because emojis are not enabled for the chat. 😣

I find it absolutely fascinating that Zoom frequently adds a dollar sign to numbers in the millions, even if a unit is not mentioned.

These are...intense descriptions!

The PNW thing that will forever remain wondrous--watching hummingbirds through my window while working from home, even during the fall and winter.

Consider Sharing Health Challenges With Colleagues (opinion) Being open with my colleagues about my cancer diagnosis has allowed me to access an enormous source of support and comfort.

I’m stuck in bed between chemo treatments for metastatic coloncancer, wearing a take-home chemo pump attached to my chest.

I wanted to share my advice that you can benefit from ‘Letting Your Colleagues In’ don’t need to struggle alone

I’m quite pleased with the two open science stickers I designed and printed this year. The Bigfoot sticker may represent the first in a series of gay cryptids!

A peek at the fruit of this week’s conference knitting. I ripped out half of this sock and still finished the pair!

I'm also having feelings about my public GitHub contributions reporting that I'm "100% issues." Sounds like I'm in a toxic relationship with my repos, tbh

A Slack bot just reminded me to review my channels "for relevance" and leave channels if I don't participate anymore.

Bold of it to assume I don't hoard Slack channels like some kind of dragon suffering from information overload.

Someone on this city bus just uttered the phrase “ChatGPT generated holographic Elvis” and I don’t even know where to start

Someone two rows behind me on this flight has audible Slack notifications sounding every 10-20 seconds and it’s racheting my anxiety. I don’t think this was the type of response Pavlov intended for us.

Politics aside, is "hot spot" supposed to be a climate change joke? I don't know whether I'm supposed to laugh or cry!

Are you the type of person who waves goodbye at the end of each Zoom call, or are you someone who has found a way to indicate you don't hate humanity without being awkward?

I logged on to a zoom call today and a coworker greeted me with “Hey Kate!”

The closed captioning in the call interpreted this as “Hey gay!”

So wrong, yet so right. 🌈

A real thing I wrote to a colleague yesterday while taking a work call from an airport:

"Can you back me up in case something weird happens? There is half a bulb of half-peeled garlic next to me and it's making me anxious."

I attended a medium-sized regional uni as an undergrad bc it was financially feasible. I didn't realize till I was a postdoc that faculty/attendees of Ivy League/prestigious schools view it as an exclusive type of club that automatically puts someone at an advantage.
