a man in a white suit is sitting at a table with regal written on the bottom Alt: Morgan Freeman, playing God, in a white suit is sitting at a table and waves his hand in a gentle but dismissive manner. The screen has a logo with regal written at the bottom right corner.

Let me ask you something. If one prays for patience, do you think God gives them patience? Or does he give them the opportunity to be patient? If one prayed for their family to be closer, you think God zaps them with warm, fuzzy feelings? Or does he give them opportunities to love each other?

Is this some sort of anti-antidisestablishmentarianism? ;)

My dad absolutely loved egg creams and was really frustrated he couldn't get them outside of NYC. I think of him every time I hear them mentioned. Thank you. <3

This is why I get offended seeing any posts criticizing the ACA especially if you weren't old enough to understand the dynamics at play then.

JUSTICE SOTOMAYOR, dissenting from the denial of certiorari.
Petitioner Priscilla Villarreal is a reporter who was arrested for doing something journalists do every day: posing
questions to a public official. Specifically, Villarreal twice
texted with a police officer to corroborate information Villarreal already knew about events that had occurred within
her community. That officer voluntarily provided the information Villarreal sought, and Villarreal published those
facts, consistent with her role as a journalist. Six months
later, Villarreal was arrested for asking those questions.
Making matters worse, Villarreal alleges that the arrest followed a months-long effort by a police department and district attorney’s office to retaliate against her because they
disliked much of her reporting on their activities. Of course,
that reporting was often critical of them.
It should be obvious that this arrest violated the First
Amendment. Yet the Fifth Circuit held that the officials
were entitled to qualified immunity, and now Villarreal is
left without a remedy. The Court today makes a grave error
by declining to hear this case.

The Supreme Court refuses to review an odious 5th Circuit decision granting qualified immunity to Texas officials who arrested a citizens-journalist in retaliation against her posing questions to public officials. Sotomayor has an appropriately furious dissent: www.supremecourt.gov/orders/court...

The Internet is not a great place to Do Nuance but this is one of those places where nuance is really called for.

A lot of enlisted folks enlisted out of economic need, did not sign up yesterday, & really cannot just walk off the job without severe consequences.

AND enlistment is not heroism, AND

The name of someone I used to work with popped up in my contacts and made me smile. I sent off a <I hope you are doing well. Thanks for this past kindness Hope to see you soon.> email.

The reply I got back proved how even very small acts of kindness and connection mean so much right now.

If y'all don't know what voter suppression looks like, this is it.

Pretending that a mostly white electorate are the base of the Democratic party (they're not), then ignoring the actual base as if we don't exist.

Black women are biggest part of the base, but we're absent here. I wonder why.😒

THEY ARE BUYING UP WAREHOUSES TO HOLD HUMAN BEINGS IN DETENTION INDEFINITELY.

I feel crazy at how everyone is acting like this is normal. These are concentration camps being built right before our eyes. These buildings are not meant to house human beings. People will be caged like cattle and die.

I'm convinced AI is our generation's radium - a discovery with genuinely useful applications in specific, controlled circumstances that we stupidly put in everything from kid's toys to toothpaste until we realised the harm far too late where future generations will ask if we were out of our minds.
